I don't know the full details of the story surrounding this deer, however I was told that it was shot in Pike County, IL this past fall and not recovered until this spring. Whether that is true or not, I am not sure. One thing is for sure though - this is a truely incredible animal. If anyone has any more information on this buck or any photos, please let us know.

Again, I can't confirm the absolute validity of this, but I was told that the guy holding the rack is Dan Perez. He shot the buck in Novemeber and eventually found him on March 17th of this year. When he found the deer, still on his property with his arrow in it, he called a conservation officer who came out to inspect the carcass and issued Dan a special tag that would eventually allow him to register the deer in the record books - citing that it was legally harvested during the season. Once again, whether or not that is factually accurate I have no idea. One way or another, that's just an incredible rack. I can't stop looking at that photo.

Okay, that probably explains it, b/c that tag looks like a check station tag that they put in the leg when you check it in.
And are we talking about the Dan Perez from PSE Archery??

Would love to read more about this. Five months is a lot of time to recover an animal after shooting it...especially when it was on your land the whole time.
None the less...one heck of a deer!

There is still quite a bit of red meat around the skull cap. I found a road kill from this winter that had no hair around the skull cap. Nice rack though.
