I'd be a little hesitant using any scent that's not native
to the area I hunt.

Some cover scents contain vanilla. I'm not sure how much it is diluted or what else is added, but the scent of vanilla is unmistakable. I haven't seen it in a while, but "cover-up" smelled like vanilla and today I was watching Dan Fitzgerald (sp?) on a hunting show and he was using some type of vanilla cover scent. I'm not sure how it would work "straight", without adding anything else.

Might be ok for hunting cakes.

What is appealing to you, is not necessarily appealing to deer.

Keep your area as intact as possible. That includes no strange smells.

We have an ol' timer that hunts with us from time to time. He uses nothing but vanilla and anise for attractant scents. Refuses to even consider using "the norm" (Tink's 69, Buckstop, Apple scent, etc). He limits out every year. Must be working for him.

I've tried it, but havent been able to get that many responses. Must not be holding my tounge right.....

i use vanil all the time but it is important that you use pure vanilla. not imatation extract because it contains alcohol and will kill the vanilla scent. secondly i would recommed the you use a vanilla bean(whole). i usually will lay one at the base of my tree the bean looks more native to the area
