new to bowhunting
Hello, Im new to bow hunting. I just got a parker buckshot bow. I wanting to bow so bad but could not draw it back. I finally find a bow that will go down to 18. I have a friend thats going to help me adjust the sights, sight it in, and just help me. Just to let yo uknow Im a female with a small stature. Im starting practicing drawing at 25 lbs and working my way up. It may take me a year to get to 50 but thats alright. I can bench around 120, but drawing a bow is a whole different story. IF you have any comments, tips, or anything, please post.
Also, what do u guys think of a parker bow? Its my first bow ever, and I wanting to start small. It was around $300
Thanks,
Melissa

welcome to the wonderful wold of bowhunting, you will love it. Take your time getting up in poundage just up the pounds a few lbs at a time and you will get there. and don't get discouraged if shooting the bow doesn't come easily, it takes practice. actually to be technical perfect practice. just remember for the first while develope good form because with out good form you won't be consistant. Good luck.

If you can bench 120, you can definitely yank back 50lbs!!! It will just take a little time. Hang in there and each week put about a 1/2 cranck on each limb. By the fall you will be pulling 50 with your teeth!!
Welcome aboard. Don't get discouraged!!! The first few years can be tough!!! I've been there, took me 3 seasons to kill my first and have gotten one every year since then going on 14 years!!!

Welcome
The best advise I can give is not to crank up the poundage too fast. Start with a comfortable weight and concentrate on good form, gradually adding more weight until you're at your desired draw weight. It only takes a couple of pounds every week or two and you'll condition the mussles in you back and be shooting 50 lbs in no time.
It's nice to see young ladies getting involved in the sport. I think you should strong arm a couple of you friends and get them involved as well, It's good for our sport and good for the soul.
Congrats on the parker. They make very nice bows and it sounds like you have gotten a good fit which is even more important. Good luck and if you hit some bumps along the way, hold on. Feel free to ask questions as the arise and we'll do our best to help you out.

Ok your a female intering into the world of bowhunting? "I think thats Great" We need more females in archery! As far as How good is a parker bow is? I don`t know much about parker. But from what I have seen and read they make a very good top quality bow. One more thing I might add is practice as much as possible and when you think you have practiced enuff? Practice somemore
Again welcome to the board..rta47[/quote]

Thanks for all the support. I always loved the sport of bowhunting, a lot of my friends do it. The only thing was I could not draw over 30 lbs. I could barely do that. So thats why I got a bow that can go down to 18. I may sound a little weak, but I think its a whole different muscle. I will slowly increase the draw weight. It may be years until I actually hit an animal, but Im gonna keep on doing it.
Thanks again you guys! And be prepared for lots of questions from me

Congratulations, it's a fun sport and this is a great board. You're right about it being a different muscle. It will take time to adjust but you will be there in no time. Are you in it for the sport of shooting, hunting or both? If it's hunting 40 lbs is enough to hunt in most states. Some I believe allow 35 but don't quote me on that.
Good luck
