Default How many

I was reading all the response in "Passing theBuck" post and woundered how many deer people passed on. I mean ones you could have taken beyond a doubt. I seen 7 bucks during the combined season and 5 I believe I could have killed.Does are a different story, I only seen 7. The first ones on Nov. 15,opening day of gun and I shot one. Then late bow Dec.28,And I shot her.Our bow season run from Oct.1-Jan1, I hunted at least 45 days and passed on at least 9 deer. How many did you pass on ? But I do consider the season to be sucessful.

I passed on one fork and one six point. I had opportunitities at a number of does but only in areas where I didn't have bonus tags. Freezer is about empty already.

Last fall I passed (could have shot) two immature bucks that offered broadside to quartering away shot at less then 30 yards. Both were basket bucks that should be nice deer next year if others were as selective as I was.

I like you, took a doe for my freezer and ate buck tag soup. I'd rather eat a doe and buck tag soup and have a chance to connect with a wall hanger every 3-4 years, than eat a small buck every year.

I'd have to check my log, but I think it was somewhere around 6-7 small bucks that I could have shot. Does don't get passed on if I have a valid tag, unless its the rut. BB's get passed all the time. Small does I may pass if I have lots of meat in the freezer already and I think I'll still be able to get a good shot at something biger. My standards for bucks probably aren't as high as most here, but I do hold out for decent ones in my area.

I passed a lot of great bucks just because i knew that this one was roaming around on the land that i hunt. One of thebucks that i passed was a 125" 8 point. Then the last day of the first half of thebow season the one i wanted showed up at 20 yards. I stuck him and he ran about 100 yards out to the middle of the golf course and droped. It is a good thing it was to cold to golf, i can just see a cuple of old grannies out golfing and haveing a deer run out to the golf course and die right in front of them. I probably wouldn't have ever heard the end ot if.

I passed on one, a small forked four p'ter.
And soon after, almost kicked myself.
Had a deer sneaked up on me (behind, coming from the right) and I had a doe tag--took a shot and the deer expired about 80 yards from my stand.
Gave it some time and headed over to collect what I thought was a doe.
Well the bad news was, as I lifted the deer to put it on the cart (it was now quite dark--& I was using a light) its 'privates' said otherwise--it was a good size 'button buck'--wasn't very happy with myself--and still isn't.
Fortunately a doe tag can be used on a buck with antlers three inches or less.
My bad!!

This year was bad for me. I had a total of 5 deer in bow range all season[:'(] 2 does, 2 spikes and a 6pt.

I smoked the 2 does and passed the dinks.

In seasons past I've averaged letting 2-3 decent 2 1/2 year old bucks walk. However, in my area, anything in the 110 range will get smoked, no questions asked.
