RE: Moultrie Digital trail cam?
I was considering getting a Moultrie Digital, but after my experiences with my 35mm Moultrie, I think I will pass. Heck, I am a firm believer that when it comes to digital game cameras, you get what you pay for. Look at the Stealth Cam Digitals, sounds great on paper, but the batter life was absolutely horrible, picture quality was less than expected, and the camera was incredibly slow at snapping pictures. On the other hand, a quality unit such as the Trail Mac Digital will get awsome battery life, have perfect quality pics (night and day), and will snap pictures very fast.
With this new Moultrie Digital, I have concerns about battery life. On a cold PA night, with good deer activity, a cameras batteries are really tested. Also, picture quality is a concern. These cheaper units tend to use "no name" cameras which don't nessacarily have the quality of the units that come with Sony, Olympus, ect. cameras! Also, just the quality. Moultrie has never really got a good grip on the game camera market and each Moultire I have had or my friends/family have had has broke! When spending a couple hundred dollars, I want a dependable unit!
Take it from a guy who put around $700 into a digital Stealth Cam, rechargeable batteries, memory cards, solar panel, chain, lock, ect... It is worth it to spend the extra money on the "top" end units or just builing a home-brew.
Next unit I am gonna try is the Buckeye Digital. It is a "homebrew" style unit that looks very very promising.
