Default Slick Tricks

I have been testing the slick trick heads and love the way they fly but they seem to have a sizzling noise when in flight. Does anybody else notice this?

There were some guys posting over in the technical forum that had the same problem. What kind of fletching are you shooting?

Take the bacon off the front... when it sizzles, it's done. [8D]

My slick tricks also make this sound...but I only notice it when I'm shooting at 30+ yds.

Every single arrow I have ever shot has made some sort of hissing sound when flying down range. When the arrow moves the air out of the way it makes noise. Even a field tipped arrow makes a hissing noise when it is traveling through the air.

Montecs, Muzzy, thunderheads, slick trick, innerlock, stingers, etc... etc... etc...

You can not get a fixed blade head to be perfectly quiet when traveling through the air at 250+ fps. Especially ones with vented blades. The blades create little vortecs in the air and this creates noise. You can't get around it.

Try standing down range one day BEHIND AN ARROW PROOF BARRIER such as a brick building or a big oak tree and listen to an arrow fly by. They all make noise.

Freak, just order the heads. You won't regret it.

I also noticed a distinct hissing noise shooting the slick trick. My muzzy heads were silent in comparison. Yes, all arrows will generate noise/have a noise signature, but that's like saying all cars made noise going down the highway. If I have a choise between two broadheads that have the exact same performance down range, one generates 25 descibels and the 45, I'll shoot the quieter one.

I have noticed some heads are louder than others in flight, and that a head that is "loud" with one fletch/arrow combo may be quiet with another. Larger vents useually mean more noise. I am actuall getting ready to do a "study" on this within the next month or so. I just need to get caught up on my other writting.
