Default Store bought ground blind users??????

I would like to take my son and/or my daughter bow hunting with me at times, but I use my climber most of the time. I want to buy a ground blind so they too may enjoy what I enjoy. With so many choices I need help. What are some plus and minuses to look for? Thanks in advance for your replies.

the things i look for
material(quiet) usually the wind is blowing and a noisy blind is annoying to you and the animals
ease in setting up a good pop up is nice you dont spend alot of time putting it up or tearing it down
weight make it lite packing anything more than 10 pounds just sucks

(just a tip)
i try to set up my (double bull t2) ground blind at least 7 days before i use it unless i can hide it well in the trees on a trail the antelope and elk dont seem to mind it much but the mulies take a few days to get used to it

i bought one off ebay acouple of years ago basically so i could take my daughter hunting and enjoyed it tremendously and she did harvest a nice eight point out of it,but it did get me hooked on ground blind hunting and now i own several.they are great but my favorite is one that came from ebay and i can't remember the name of the brand it is but they are selling a couple of them now they are under duck hunting blind.they are 6by4 and 72 tall, they do take a lttle bit of time to set up, but when put up the wind does make these move like alot of others do,also you have ample room to put in a couple of chairs and a heater and such.it has six zipper windows and two bow slots.it is the best one around in my book.my daughter took her first turkey out of it this spring at seven yards.

Price was always a stumbling block for me when looking at a fully enclosed, commercial ground blind but then the local shop started carrying the Ameristep variety and I was a little surprised by the price. It was actually "doable".

So, I bought a &quot;Doghouse&quot; blind a couple weeks ago and have been using it on several occasions both for deer scouting and goose hunting (I am not sure if commercial ground blind hunting for archery is legal in PA since the laws have been modified in recent years). It weighs approx. 12 lbs, is extremely easy to setup, has a variety of window setups and is a pure pleasure to hunt out of. Even my big ol' 31 inch draw length fits comfortably inside it...<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>. It is definitely big enough to fit 3 average size adults so your two children should have plenty of room in there. The price was around $150 for that particular model though Ameristep does make an &quot;Outhouse&quot; blind that is slightly smaller in size and yet will still accomodate 2 average size adults. Price is around $99.

Hope this helps.

Trees for a treestand are very hard to come by in my area, so I purchased a decent sized ground bling by Underbrush last year. Worked great most of the time, however, the one buck that I really wanted to take got spooked by my &quot;shadow&quot; that showed through.

I was unaware that the early morning sun would shine through like it did. The buck came head on 'till about 30 yards out. Stopped cold because he saw me get ready to draw. Turned tail and bolted.

I got out of the blind to take a look at what he saw. Looked from his perspective...and saw right through the blind to the stool, bow and the blind frame. I'm sure that if I was in there, I'd be plain as day.

I now wish that I purchased one with a black interior liner....that's what you sometimes get when you try to save a few bucks....

It also helps to practice shooting while in a kneeling, seated & very crouched position. I was in a blow down ground blind last year and had never shot from a seated position. Found that with the stress of having twin spikes suprise me at less than 5 yds, I did not have the controll for a good shot at either. I let them go and had a great laugh.

It was an incredible experience to see the deer head on at ground level though. Talk about an adrenaline rush!

Still a rookie and am loving this sport.

Thanks for all the replies. I too am looking at the Doghouse from Ameristep.
I just dont see how a deer would not spoke by seeing a camo &quot;tent&quot; set up. I guess you have to use common sense and set up in a thicket.
Thanks again

Cooler,

I don't think that they spook as easily as we might think based on a stationary visual cue.

Deer in my area are used to a changing &quot;Visual&quot; environment.

One day the hay field is deep and dense, the next, there are all of these huge hay cylinders laying all over. The deer still come through the hayfield like clockwork. They really like a freshly cut hayfield. New tender greens start to sprout. Great for evening grazing.

This season I am going to modify my blind so that it will look like any of the other haybales on the property. I am lucky though in that I am able to leave the blind up without fear of someone taking it. My 7yr old daughter looks forward to her first hunt with dad this eyar also.

Good luck.
