Default Getting the most fps

I posted in the young guns and didnt get great results so what all can I do to an old pse nova to make it shoot faster. Ive pounded it all the way up and put limb savers on the limbs. Shooting pretty light carbon force arrows. I dont want to buy another bow because Ive spent most all of my money. I got this bow for 100 at the last congressional bow shoot and would like to make it work for deer hunting now that I am old enough to really hunt well!

I would worry more about accuracy than speed at this point in the game for you..You can gain a little more speed by putting nothing more than a nock set and silencers on your string. My fist bow was a pse nova..It was a good shooting bow. Got my first elk with it at 33 yards. The bow will do well on deer. The rest is up to you..Good luck

I suspect that you are shooting with plenty of speed already. The bows of today, even one that is a few years old shoot much faster than the bows of yesterday that killed lots of deer effectively. Don't believe the hype that you need to shoot 300 fps to kill a deer. It is a lie. As long as it is cranked up to at least 45 Lbs. you should be fine.

The only thing more speed will do for you is bring your sight pins closer together (arrow drops less at each distance).

I was under the impression that anything you put on the bow, including limb savers and string silencers actually slowed the bow down a little. Did I hear wrong?????

I would use it for a year or two and try to learn what you do and don't like about it and other bows. Then in a few years go out and buy what you realy want. As far as trying to make it faster my question is why? The bow is what it is trying to make it into something its not is useless. I'll second it will work great for deer and elk too, my father owned one for a few years while he was trying his hand with bowhunting, he didnt kill anything because he never took bowhunting serious enough. But it would have preformed great had he done his part. Remember too that a bow is only as good as the arrow/broadhead combo. That is what kills a animal, fast or slow it will do its job as long as you have a good arrow and a excellent broadhead.

Well Im just under 40 pounds I think and would like to get some more yardage out of it, I do have a special nock thing that moves your release behind it and can pie plates 90 percent of the time. Oh yeah I have some sort of felt scilencers that go on the string! I just want to take an ok bow and make it alot better. I like messing around and shooting at farther distances. I have a quiver and a pse sights to!

THe only way you can take an OK bow and make it better is to 1. make sure it is tuned correctly, then 2. practice. In hunting conditions you need to hit pie plates 100% of the time. If you can't then keep moving closer or practice more. THere is nothing wrong practicing at far distances, but given your bow, I wouldn't shoot at any deer past 20-25 yds or so.

You got great results, you just didn't get what you wanted to hear.

mrwake, at 40 pounds you can kill an elk with ease, a average size deer should be a walk in the park. My wifes bow (Fred Bear) only goes to 42 pounds as well. I have went back and read through your replys with your post in young hunters. Washington Hunter is correct you did recieve some excellent advice. I know you are young and with only pulling 40 pound worries you but don't. DON"T WORRY about more speed, an overdraw or even a super light arrow. Each an every year people who shoot with traditional bows kill bear, moose, elk, and deer. A lot of these archers are using heavy cedar wooden arrows and their speeds are in between 180 to 200 fps. If I were you I wouldn't go below 350 grains with arrow weight, in fact I don't like to drop below 400 grains. In some states like Idaho you have to use a 400 grain arrow and have to be able to pull 40 pounds. As a archery education instructor I teach many many young archers and a few women. Most can't pull the heavy pounds that most adult men can. But does that make them less efficient????? Heck no in fact I have many contact me and show me photos of animals that were killed by them using the legal limit of 40 pounds. Again don't worry about speed instead worry about being accurate! Oh by the way the 95% or more of the most successful hunters I know shoot their animals at 20 yards or under. So again speed doesn't matter, and if it does take you frustration out in the weight room that way you will be able to pull more weight and have more speed with a heavy arrow.

Well thats good news, but I would like to add some stuff to my bow, Im the type of guy who likes to modify junk into great works. So what all should I add to it. One of the reasons for wanting the extra fps is because when I go to wva I love shooting arrows up as high as I can and trying to find them!

The more you add to the string the more it will slow you down if speed is a concern. Keep things simple. I would work more on yourself than I would the bow. Make yourself into a shooting machine and you will make kills with anything you put into your hands. I would lay money on the fact that I can take your setup and kill an elk with it. I have NEVER harvested and elk over 20 yards away. Or any other game as a matter of fact. Bowhunting is a close range game. There was some great advice given to you. Start at a short distance and get to where you can hit in there 100% of the time. When you can increase at 5 yard increments until you can hit each one 100% of the time. When it comes to clean kills percentage should be no where in the equation. You should be 100% sure that the animal is going to go down as quickly as possible. I have taken many animals and archery titles. My favorite yardage to practice at is 5 yards. I work on me more than anything. Remember keep it simple.
