I know you can't buy everything there, especially specialized hard to get stuff that they just don't want to stock,
I've gone to my local Cabelas store a couple time thinking that if anyone would have a 5/16 cable slide for my old Martin; Cabelas would. And every time I think that Cabelas should stock about everything under the sun I'm wrong. They have actually told me to go to Clelands, which is my local shop, more than a couple of times. Its a 20 minute drive to either Clelands or Cabelas, but the two places are 40 minutes apart, and it makes me mad every time they tell me to turn around and go the other direction. I've noticed that for a HUGE SUPER Store Cabelas archery department doesn't really come close to "having it all."

On the other hand, I do have complete faith in the people that work in the Cabelas archery department. I know a couple of them personally and they are really knowledgeable people (and I have no idea why they even take their jobs seriously when they get paid as little as they do.) And although I think their line of bows isn't spectacular they will properly fit and setup anyone looking for a new bow.

The whole reason we are having this conversation is because Bass Pro and Cabelas take a skilled job and only want to pay their people $8/hr without benefits to do it. So sometimes you get people that don't have a clue because the real people that know what they are doing, aren't willing to work for that kind of money. So I guess we'll keep having this sort of situation until these Super Stores figure out that good help is worth paying for.

At work people disrespect me because I'm young. I work in a theater at a casino. They have broadway shows, comedians, and singers come through. We have Arron Tippen, Bill Cosby, Carrot Top, Lynard Skynard, 3 Doors Down, etc. There was a couple standing on the wall and I was told to tell them to go to their seats. They told me they wouldn't listen to me. I got security and they got a little visit. I put up with enough bs at work, I'm not going to put up with anymore at an archery shop!

i usually go to this little one stop place, the guy runs a mini mart type , thats been in the family for years. he deals archery in the back .hes one of these that is willing to take time out and help everyone, no matter how stupid the ??? are. he would rather make sure you know what your doing or getting than to sell you something you dont need , or know how to use. i was doing some practiceing before huntin last season and came across a guy who bought a new bow from a pretty big outfit, as i watched , he started have all sorts of problems, they never took the time to set it properlly to him, just set it up and kicked him out, i ended up adjusting his poundage, and his peep sight,, which was off by 3 inches, and aligning his nock. if that is the treatment you get from big stores,,,, think i 'll stick with my little one stop shop. i know he'll never screw anyone over.

These bigger shops get away with this type of treatment because there will always be uneducated people who will sacrifice service for a cheaper price. They don't know any better, they just know it's cheaper. It's unfortunate, but that's the way it is. It is not until people get educated about the sport, that they will know a difference and find a good reputable PRO shop in their area to use. You did the right thing by speaking up and letting the guy know that that was wrong.

I appreciate you speaking up. I can't believe that they would attempt to sell a bow he just dry fired, let alone in fron of the customer. IMO the guy was setting himself up by shopping for a bow there but being a newbie he may not have known better. I hope he gets theservice he deserves at the shop and gets srarted truly on the right foot.

I was thinking the same thing , but then it dawned on me , I've dealt with his kind before. They know we'd get in a heap of trouble for even laying a finger on a minor. It's funny how their attitude changes once they reach legal a$$ kickin age.
