I am not a trophy hunter and I truly enjoy the meat. I like to take 2 whitetalis each season. In the area I hunt the population is quite low soooooo.... I won't shoot any doe right now (when the population gets back up I will without hesitation) and I will take the first buck that gives me a good opportunity. That almost always means with the bow. In gun season I might pass small bucks the first week but after that anything with horns.

Hunting around the house from Oct. 1 - Nov. 30 a 125 inch deer would be a shooter and or any grown doe. From Dec. 1 - Jan. 15 a 115 class deer and maybe a full grown doe.
In Illinois, depending on the property, day 1-5 a 140 class deer and day 6 & 7 a 125 class deer.

Just about anything, so long as its a deer. I'd not shoot a spike or a button buck if I could help it but other than that I suscribe to the "if its brown its down" philosophy.

OK lets see a shooter to me..hmm Well I know everyone has a different idea of a shooter, but here goes mine. If a buck walks by that has a nice symmetrical rack, he is a shooter. If an old mature doe walks by and it is still early, she will walk. If it is late she will die. I do not shoot young does because I have heard it said that younger does produce more bucks. Could be a line of crap but hey, ya gotta belive something..right? LOL

Any deer is fair game to me. I'd much rather shoot a small scrub buck or a doe and get the meat than go home empty handed. Any deer gets my heart rate up. Big bucks are hard to find around here so the 1st one who stumbles by is going to get a arrow flung at him or the first doe to for that matter!
