Do your homework on the deer in your area. Find out their feeding, travel and bedding habits. Then you will know the best spot for your stand.

I would also like to know aht kind of treestands are the best to use. I seem to be fond of the ladder stands because they look easier to put up, I want something really comfortable, easy to move in, and easy to shoot from. Any ideas guys?

i hear that the summits are good. i dont own one i hunt on the ground and see a bunch of deer i had one walk right up within 10 feet of me and stupid me i shot at her through a little bush. but i needed meat and she was waitin for the buck and i didnt wait. and i would suggest a climber unless u want to blow a bunch of money on ladder/hang on stands.

I always wondered, how in the world do you hang a treestand? It seems too dog-gon hard, almost impossible.

I My Opinion, Scouting Is One Of The Most Important Contributing Factors To Successful Bow Hunting. As Bob Indicated, Determine The Food Source And Bedding Area And Setup Along Their Travel Corridor. Though The Bucks May Not Travel The Same Trails As The Does, Their Trails Will Be Relatively Close And Often Parallel To That Of The Does. Look For Trails That Appear To Be Less Used And Have Good Cover.

It Is Best Not To Place Your Stands Directly On The Trails. I Would Suggest 20-25 Yards Off The Trail But Your Shooting Ability And Cover Will Somewhat Dictate Your Location. In Addition, I Will Generally Set Up My Stands Approximately 4-6 Weeks Prior To Open Season. It Is Good Idea To Have Several Stands Due Factors Such As Wind Direction, Pattern Changes (rut) And Hunting Pressure. Hunting In The Morning Or Evening May Also Dictate Location. The Direction Your Stand Is Facing Should Also Be Considered. You Would Prefer That The Deer Not Approach From The Rear And You Don't Want To Have The Sun Shining In Your Eyes While Trying Take That Buck Of A Life Time.

Anyhow, Their Are Alot Of Things To Consider But Much Of It Will Come With Time And Experience. I Have Been At It For Years And I Am Still Learning. There Is Alot A Reading Material Available And There Are Alot Of Brains To Be Picked Around Here As Well. None The Less, I Wish You The Best Of Luck!

I have a summit climber, some lock-ons and one ladder stand. The summit is comfortable and quite and I can stay in it all day, but it has some drawbacks. The first is it's only good for medium size trees and they don't provide good cover. Second, it doesn't pack well, not bad but not great. I changed the way they say to pack it and it has made it flater. It also has no "recomended" (wink wink) way to adjust to the diameter of the tree when climbing

There are other climbers that address some of these issues but they have other drawbacks. I don't believe there is a perfect one.

The lock-ons have there place but you have to get up to them and for me, they are the ones you need to use in small lots where you have to get in without being seen or heard.

The ladder is ok. Noisie and not very high. Unless you can convince the game your after that your some kind of hugh turkey bird like thing there not very productive. If your not comfortable climbing these are your best bet. I wouldn't plan on taking them far, on your back anyways, there heavy and bulky
