Turkey by Bow
Howdy,
I was wondering, since i am new to the whole bow hunting thing, what type of broadheads should one use to kill a turkey???
I tried last spring to get one with a bow, but the gobbler hung up at 50 yards on the wrong side of the creek. I was using the same broadhead i used for deer hunting.
Also, when shooting a turkey with a bow, is it better to shoot the bird in the chest, back, or sides trying to take the wings?
Any help would be awesome, season is a ways away, but cant start preparing soon enough.
Here is a pic of the bird that got away.
Thanks

RE: Turkey by Bow
You can kill a turkey shooting them from any angle, my favorite shot is from behind, shoot them right in the center and break their spine, but The ones i have shot in the weing have gone down fast too.
the best broadhead for turkeys is a wide cut expandable broadhead, sush as the nap gobbler getter.

I've always heard that from a side shot to aim just in front of the wing, for frontal shot aim at the beard wear it comes out of the chest and if you're up in a treestand (I guess that legal?) to aim at the back between the spot wear the wings connect to the body. For broadheads I've been using my Muzzy 3 blades..same ones I use for deer.
I came very close 3 times this past week to get one (all within 15 yards) but luck/skill wasn't on my side. Let me tell you though....it'll get your heart pounding! LOL
