Have you ever.....
shot a deer or shot at a deer with a climbing tree stand on your back?
This morning I was leaving the woods after a short hunt (had to get to work and onto the message board) and I jumped a doe on my way out. The woods were foggy and the leave wet so I was in stealth mode (not intentionally but the woods were quite). I had my climber on my back, my bow in hand and my release still strapped to my hand. A doe jumped up about 45 to 50 yards away out to the left of me and ran quartering away out to a point roughly 30 yards in front of me where I was able to stop her with my buck grunt. She stopped completely broadside to me right on my property line (which is cleared) giving me a perfect shot. It happened pretty quickly but I was able to knock an arrow and when she came to a halt on the property line I drew back and to my surprise she stood there. So there she is at about 30 yards broadside and I'm at full draw, only problem is the strap to my climber had slid slightly down off my shoulder while I was drawing and was now tugging down on my release arm which made shooting ever questionable in my mind. IMO I had no other option then to concede to her and let down (which I might add is tricky with a climber falling off your back)
I was just curious if this situation had ever presented itself to anyone else. It may never happen again but I think I will practice shooting with my climber on my back throughout next summer.

Interesting situation to be in. I guess that is just 1 more situation you will have to be practicing shooting, lol. Make sure you have all your camo on and the climber on your back to keep it real.
Sorry to say one would have to drive hours from where I live just to find a suitable tree that you could use a climbing stand on so no, never happened to me.

I had a similar situation a few years ago. I was walking up a logging road with climber on my back. When I came around a bend there was a young buck standing in the lane. Just for kicks I crouched down and started creeping toward him. He saw me right away but apparently was not sure what I was, He let me get within 40 yards before he walked away. ...........dabow

I shot a buck once with the top part of my ol man climber hanging from my butt. It has a mesh seat and when I stood to shoot it hooked on a button and came along too.
I did draw on a doe this year while I was walking out with my climber on my back, it seemed to have stayed in a good position and I would have fired had she stepped into the clear.

A good many yrs back i took a doe while walking in on a afternoon hunt. I had my stand on my back and that stand seemed to weigh a ton! I was walking in on a creek bed area that that run along a hardwood ridge. As i came to the edge of the hardwoods this doe and a smaller deer jump up right in front of me and ran up the ridge. I just stood there watching as the two deer stopped at the top of the ridge. They act like they really did not no what was going on? They then turned and started walking right back to me. I did not think they would walk as far as they did. I was standing right out in the open! The big doe keeped walking to me but not looking right at me. I just held my bow in front of my face and when she got to what i thought was around 25-30yrds I drew my bow and just waited thinking she would bust me at any min. But she turned broadside instead so when she dropped her head i took aim putting my 30yrds pin low on her chest and let it fly! I nailed her right behind the shoulder. She only ran about 30 yrds before falling within sight. The other deer did not see no reason to stick around after that. I could not believe it. I never even had time to hang my stand.
