My WV Vacation in a Nutshell
11/6: While hunting behind my house I saw nothing all morning. After lunch I went back and at 2:00 I had the biggest buck that I've ever gotten to full draw on come in behind me at a full trot. I got my bow out of it's holder and drew back, I bleated and stopped him. I put my pin behind the shoulder and touched the trigger only to see the buck turn uphill and the arrow go harmlessly down his side and touch nothing.
11/8: I hunted a WMA and saw nothing all day.
11/10: I went back to the same tree behind my house that I had missed the big one in 11/6. About 8:00 am I hear something on the ground and I looke to the left to see a buck coming out of the hollow. He came up to the flat that I was sett up on and turned and started walking away from me so I gave a few grunts on the ol EZ grunter plus. He heard the second one and turned and started my way. At 40 yards and broadside I stopped hime and let him have it. I got a passthru and had no trouble finding him. He wasn't big but considering the lack of deer that I've seen so far this year I'm glad to have killed him.
11/13: I went to one of my favorite ridgelines and got in my climbing stand around 6:50 am. At 7:20 I saw what I thought was a doe coming my way and decided that I would take her so that I could hunt bucks this weekend. In WV you you can kill 3 deer with a bow but one of the last 2 has to be a doe. So she crossed the fence into the woods that I was set-up in and at 10 yards and quartering slightly toward me I let her have it. But after the shot I heard deer behind me and when I turned around I saw a really nice buck standing facing me at only 30 yards and I never knew that he was there and now all that I could do was watch him run off. Well when I recovered the doe that I had shot I discovered that what I thought was a doe turned out to be a young buck that both antlers were broke off right at the skull. So now this weekend I'm doe hunting.
So so long.
