RE: Summit climber facts/opinions/tips
Gee, I hope my review of my Viper didn't prompt this post. I didn't mean to ruffle any feathers with it, just wanted to point out some shortcomings I experienced.
You're right, though, nothing is perfect. In fact, I just bought the top rated Pick-up in the USA, and I have to go now to buy some aftermarket parts for it and adjust a few of the factory settings to make it perform like the top rated truck it is supposed to be, but that's just normal, I guess. I need the truck so that I can load my easy chair in it to go watch my son's fooball games. It's a pain in the butt lugging it to and from and getting it set up, but it sure is comfortable when I get it there. [&:]

-If your looking at the Viper; get the Goliath! You don’t have to have it but the extra room is worth much more than the $20 price difference! I wish I would have got it instead.
I was one of the ones that said I didn't like the Summit (maybe the only one). I will say this though, I spent about 6 hours on stand Sat. and was comfortable in the summit (my API was just as comfy, so I'm not giving any ground there).
Also, summit had sent me a bow holder for some of the troubles I had when ordering my stand. It helped. I like to have my bow on my lap while hunting (easy access and my hand is already in the loop.) The Cobra I have doesn't allow you to lay your bow across your lap which drove me crazy. The bow holder is nice and reliable. Haven't had a deer come in yet, we'll see how well I remove the bow and get ready for the shot when that happens.

I know that in past years folks have complained about the cables rattling around inside the arms when ascending or descending the tree. I found a simple way to correct this issue. Bend the cables, slightly, between each of the cable stops. This makes the cable look like a "U" bent forward. What this does is force the cable to always be pressed up against the inside of the arms. Since it is always pressed up against the inside wall, even when no pressure is applied, the cables cannot rattle.
From what I have been told, this is not necessary on the newer '04 models because of the bend in support arm itself.
Hope this helps.

Great posts. I got some really good ideas for my stand. I have had the stand for 2 years now and i love it. I have never been in an API stand but my viper is very comfy. I am a big guy 6'3" 250lbs and I have no problems sitting in the stand for 8hrs. I would recommend Summit to anyone.
