Sounds like a badger, if not then a fisher maybe. Next to a badger probably the meanest most ill tempered crabby hateful attitude havin anmial in the woods. Just the kind to beat up on a perfectly dead deer.

Almost definitly a badger. The doe blocked the entrance/exit to it's burrow and pissed it off. It savaged the deer in revenge. They are related to wolverines and fishers, same family, and can be really savage critters when provoked. Moreover, it doesn't take a whole lot to provoke them.

Were you able to salvage the meat? It should have still been good given the temperature.

As far as your culprit...it wasnt a badger...It was a Bow Ninja...sneaky bastards they are...THEY want you to think it was a badger...

First off, Great Story!! I enjoyed it alot. I would guess it was a badger. I am from iowa and have seen them before, guarding thier hole in the ground.
