Hunting strategy, what would you do?
The other day, i left a post describing my saturday hunt whereby i walked up on a nice 8 point in the palmetto bush. I didn't get a shot b/c I was 10 yds from the buck when he made me, and took off running.
I went back yesterday to see if he was still in the area. I slip hunted very slowly, keeping the wind in my face. As I approached the area where i found him originally, I located a spot with fresh scape sign. Since it had been raining all day, I am certain the scrape was less than an hour old. The soil was fluffy despite the ongoing sprinkles. The limb above the scrape was at 4-5 feet and was tore up. The print was of a large deer. Since we have very few deer in my area of Florida and this sign was within 75 yds of the buck i found in the palmetto, i feel pretty certain it is the same buck. Unfortunately, I never saw him or any other deer while slipping the area.
The terrain does not offer an opportunity to hunt a funnel, so I don't know how to hunt this deer. One method would be to back off until ML season and then climb high and look for him, but I am looking for your input on trying to get on him now.
Any ideas as to how i might be able to get on this deer?

RE: Hunting strategy, what would you do?
someone must have a good suggestion on how to approach this deer? For those who did not see the original post, this is the deer that i walked upon in the palmetto bush and just before releasing at 10 yds, he looked at me and ran off. Now I seem to know where he is living, but i'm not sure how to approach him. Part of what i am curious about is, should I try to set up on his scrap and do some calling (which i have never done before) or set up and be quiet, or slip hunt??
just looking for a few strategic suggestions.

Appeal to his sences! Get some BF F gland scent and permiate the air with it. The start rattleing but "tickeling the tines"(gentle rattleing to simulate a sparing contest. If he's in the neighborhood and is the dominate buck you may bring him in on a rope.
I know florida is pretty flat but an elevation diffrence of 5-6 feet may be enough to funnel the deer. A slight ridge like this will allow them some cover that then can move behind and also a quick escape route. If you have any such terrain features they'd definately be worth checking out.
