Would appreciate your opinion....
I have several places to hunt.
One of these places is shared with another hunter. It is his only place. So, I let him take first deer there. Then I get it after he gets his.
He got his yesterday, a doe. I went there tonite. Sat in the same stand that he had been in. Guts were below it, about 20' away. I'm sure he drove his pick up in to get her. Which was fine. He didn't do anything wrong.
I saw no activity there at all. That didn't surprise me. I figured last night must've shook them up after he got his, and all the commotion.
So......
Would you let this area rest for a while, so the deer go back to normal routine? How long?

I'd wait at least a few days. Though I have seen deer in an area where my brother had shot a buck the actual morning the day I was hunting, but if you have other areas you can hunt, there's no real reason not to stay away from this spot for a couple days

I agree with trbotsi. I was just thinking if you have other places to hunt, it couldn't hurt giving this spot a substantial rest... If this was the only place you had access to hunt, I'd give it a day or two, but since you have others, a little more time couldn't hurt (unless somebody else could come in and kill your trophy!).

Give it rest a bit. Its to bad he could not have dragged the deer out before dressing it. Maybe next time that is a route you may want to consider, and props to you for being nice enough to let him get first crack. The world would be a better place if everyone had your sportsmanship. Hats off to you mate!

Guts, 20 feet from the stand he knew you were going to hunt? Does he want you to shoot a coyote? I might have bagged them up and put them back in the truck he brought back there. [:'(]

I'm not gonna bug him about it. He is an older, retired guy that I don't expect would change his ways......better just let it go & work around it.....

Hey Sunset,my answer depends somewhat on how much pressure the other guy had put on them before he got one and whether or not he got busted any,if he had hunted it hard it may take them a little while to settle down, but if he slipped in and made a quick silent kill only a day or two till back to normal. Next time ya talk to Forrest ask him about the wild possom chase he sent me on tonight.lol

I agree, atleast a week! Let the guts be and the scavengers will take of that stuff! I would wait a week or till a good rain hits the area and washes some of the scent away!
