Well I am back from a 5 day Elk/Deer trip
It went well with no arrowing though.
A few highlights. First off I was out there again finally. And the first couple of days were nice but didnt even see anything, although something caught me standing up on my stand and took of snorting at me. Then one day it rained down in five gallon buckets I got soaked on stand and started shivering so bad I thought that tree was going over so I got down and started walking around and got withing 25 yards of a real nice big bodied 3x3 blacktail. The only problem was this little stinking pine just perfectly in the way of the vitals. He gave me plenty of time to judge draw and shoot but not enough to do that and take a step and shoot. Oh well
Saw a couple other bucks while driving, and then one morning I was sitting in another stand and heard a deer hawling butt toward me. This doe came running by at mock ten right behind my stand with a yote hot on her trail and I thought man I want to shoot him. Well a few seconds later a second yote was sniffing his way chasing them, well I whistled and he stopped so I took a shot and parted the hair on his back. Well although I missed I am sure he pissed himself and he ran the other direction.
But the all time kicker is when I first got to my stand I noticed that someone put some marker tape onto my stealth cam. I thought this was odd and I also noticed (or thought) that the batteries were finally dead after a month and a half. Well got to thinking about it and sure enough whoever it was they opened it and shut it off. They even opened the camera case itself and ruined that last two pitcures, probally to eliminate any of them. Funny thing about it is it is a not so easy place to get to. All of my hunting buddys hate it and said that I better shoot a trophy or they are not helping me. It is about 1/2 to 3/4 mile steep down hill. I cant tell you how many times that I fell on my butt and slid down the hill a bit and I was always going slow and being careful.
Anyhow sorry for the long post but I had a blast cant wait to be out again.
Good luck to all

RE: Well I am back from a 5 day Elk/Deer trip
i also was out on a 9 day deer and elk hunt Labor Day weekend through that week saw lots of deer on the ground and in my stand. One morning it was just about daylight about another 20 mins. before i could see my pins and just of to my left about 25-30 yards i heard some rustling with heavy hoofs, i'm almost sure it was an elk,(maybe climbing the tree stimulated it into thinking i was another elk) i was trying to be as quiet as i could and i when i was reaching back for my bow from the hanger i "ticked" my bow against the hanger, well it backed off a ways and i'm certain it still did not realize that i was up there in my stand for it stood around for a bit snorting , clearing it's nostrils, anyway i heard it move off down below toward a creek, nonetheless ran into more elk on the ground, had a few deer around my stand but nothing where i could see horns, but i'm headed out again this weekend and on into next week so i'll give it another try.

Welcome back pinkys79, great recap of the true art of hunting with all the events that take place in the woods = buckets of rain, sliding down hills, seeing deer in rut, etc....Thank you for sharing this.
I sort of know the feeling of what you mean about your camera, i started to put my stand up one day in a tree, and lo and behold someone else had a hanger in the tree. Out of all the trees in the woods someone already had this tree??Weird feeling...

Yeah Katbones your right it is kinda of weird feeling, but he didnt have to shut it off, its not like I would have known who it was even if I did get a pic of him (or her). At least they didnt steal it but it was locked too so maybe they were mad that they found a camera but couldnt take it and it was way to difficult of a walk to go get the cutters, lol.
