I just went to the store to get the stuff to make this and I saw a bottle of Febreze - Antimicrobial. I bought a bottle of it, I wonder if putting 8oz per gallon would help the make the solution better?

I made my batch last night as well, but I have a few questions:

1. What size boxes of Baking soda are you using? I bought the 16 oz size (the bigger of the two my WalMart had) and I have a lot of non dissolved residue on the bottom of my jug.

2. I got some on my hands this morning and I can still smell the peroxide. Won't the deer spook at the smell of peroxide, or will that neutralize itself on less concentrated applications?

This is what I mixed:

1/2 gallon of distilled water
2 quarts of peroxide (that totals one gallon now)
2 16 oz. boxes of baking soda (the other choice was 8 oz. and I'm wondering if that is the size you all are using.)
2 shot glasses of HS non scent/scent killer soap

I kind of mixed the two recipes, with the addition of the soap.

I'd be careful about the fabreeze. My wife uses that stuff, and it is far from scent free, anti microbial or not. The peroxide takes care of killing odor causing germs... Hell, if it wasn't for the soap, this stuff would probably be a pretty good mouthwawsh/breath deodorizor too.

AHhh, that's what I was afraid of. I guess I'll go home and double everything else and just have two gallons of it. Heck, I'll be able to bathe in it.

I started making my own last year. I can't tell the difference between the store bought stuff and the home-made other than the price. My ingredient list.

2 - 1 gallon jugs of distilled water. $ .89 a piece @ Food Lion
2 - 1 qrt (32oz.) bottles of peroxide. $ .97 a piece @ Walmart
2 - 16 oz. boxes of baking soda. $ 1.00 for 2 boxes @ Food Lion
4 tbl spoons of HS green soap $ 3.97 for a bottle @ Walmart

I start by pouring one gallon of distilled water in the yard. I just need the gallon container.
I then divide the remaining gallon between the two 1 gallon containers. Next pour 1 quart of peroxide in each container. Next add the baking soda till no more will disolve. This is approximately 3/4 of a box per container. I finish off with 2 table spoons of green soap per container. I give it a good shake every morning for about a week and grin about the $50 to $60 dollars I'm saving.

Im going to use the green stuff from Hunter Specialties. I use that exclusively for showering, shampooing, washing hands, etc. if I'm going to be hunting within a day or two. I hear phisoderm should be good too, but I can't find regular phisoderm soap, just their other products. I just picked up the baking soda and distilled water yesterday, had everything else in the house already. (probably had the baking soda too, but wasn't sure so I splurged for the $.79, lol.)

Count me as another new convert!!!

The above is the recipe I ultimately used, as the other one with the 32 oz. of peroxide had too much of a peroxide smell for me, but I'm sure it works as well.

Anyway, I went out last night somewhat reluctantly because it was 91 degrees at 4:00 PM, but my friend called and asked me to go out with him, so I did. After showing him a spot I thought would be good for getting a doe, which is what he wants first for the freezer, I started walking a 1/4 mile back to a spot I thought would be good for a nice buck, and after getting back there and starting to get dressed in my hunting clothes, I realized I left my fanny pack back in my truck with my release in it. So I trek back the 1/4 mile and then back back again to where I'm getting dressed. All of this was in an open pasture in the full sunlight. I'm sweating like a dog!!!, totally drenched. I change my clothes in the field, dousing myself in this spray and then walked into the woods to the tree I selected to use my climber on. I'm still sweating, but not as bad.

To try to sum up, everything was wrong for trying to control scent, and the wind shifted while I was in the tree and I still had 9 doe and 5 bucks, 3 of them were mature bucks, all walk around down wind and not a single one busted me in the whole bunch over a 2 hour period.

THE STUFF WORKS, and it's CHEAP. You can use all you want, all over, because you're not watching another $10-$12 manufacturer's bottle disappear in front of your eyes for just one hunt. That always kept me from using as much of the store bought stuff as I should have, which kept it from being as effective.

Try it, you'll love it.

Hey guys, I have been using this recipe for a couple of years now.

I have cut back on the peroxide though. I only use 4-6ozs of it with the same amount of the other ingredients.

Anyone else try this?
