Got my deer...seasons over!
With the elk last weekend and the muley yesterday morning and having not drawn an antelope tag, it looks like my bow season is over for 2004 (less the occasional coyote). This guy was with about 8 other young bucks. I watched him head up a draw and moved ahead to intercept. Well my intercept was almost too good! It was one of those "sneak, sneak, sneak...oh crap!!" I was right in the middle of them!! Actually right ahead and in the middle. They busted out and this deer bolted to the opposite side of the ravine at about 50 yards. He was actually looking the other way and I felt comfortable with the shot so I took it. Couldn't have drawn an X any better. Both lungs and the top of his heart. He went about forty yards and reared over backwards. It was over.
Total track job for the year=70 yards and I watched both expire. Now that is how I like to follow blood trails!!!
What a great season!

And now what? Congrats on two beautiful animals but what will you do the rest of the fall? There are whitetails in the heartland as well as in the northeast
And if you call it quits for the year I don't blame you. You must be beat from packing out all that meat.
