2 Cam pics - is this the same buck?
These pictures are from within 100yds of each other, on the edge of an overgrown apple orchard. The bucks have been staging here all summer, before going out to feed on soybeans.
The first pictures are from 8/11, and this deer is in Velvet:
the buck appears to be outside his ears - probably 16-18" inside?
The next picture is from around 9/7. The deer is out of velvet - an does not (to me anyways) seem to be as wide - though the tine spacing seems close:
I'd like anyone's opinion - Is it the same deer - or another 9 point?
Thanks
FH

First off if you have yourself a staging area then you've got half the battle won. There is in my opinion no better place to hunt an afternoon than a staging area...the only place I like more is a natural funnel during the rut.
He appears to be a different buck to me unless he broke his G3 on his right beam..it appears shorter than the buck in velvet although very similiar.....also his G4 on his right side appears smaller than the buck in velvet as well as the main beam length on his left appears longer than the buck in velvet.
IMO

I'd say it is the same buck. I think the close camera shot makes the tines look longer. I also see that the brow tines, one comes forward and the other goes back, look the same. I think he is a nice 9 point.

look the same to me, when there heads are down the rack always looks smaller. I have some game cam pics of a nice eight with its head down, and the camera alerted him so on the next pic he is looking right at it. I was like DAMMMMMMMMMMMMn cuz he looked unreal then, big spread probably 20 inches or so. Would have never guessed it from the head down shot of him. Anyway those are two really beautiful deer in all those pics and the cam doesnt seem to bother them. Great pics man.
Good luck
Thanks for showing em to me.

I would say definitely the same buck. And in my personal opinion, a rack that is roughly to the tips of the ears is a max of roughly 16 inches, probably more like 15 inches. IMO.
