Got my first deer!
Just wanted to share my excitement with all of you who have been so much help to me. Shot a nice 4X4 mule deer buck on Saturday. It was a downhill shot and I didn't get a pass through. By the way he acted I was sure I had gotten both lungs, but as it turns out I just hit one so it took a second arrow to put him down for good. Not sure why the arrow didn't go all the way through. The broadhead didn't look like it had encountered bone, but it appears that it just came to rest on the opposite front leg bone. The last 1/2 inch of the feathers didn't penetrate. He didn't go very far, but of course it was straight downhill into the thick, nasty stuff!
It was a tough haul off the mountain, but well worth it. My husband took a doe about a mile farther down the mountain less than three hours before I shot my buck, so it was a very big day for us. Right place, right time I guess. My buck was still in full velvet so the taxidermist is going to freeze dry them to save it (I hope). Thanks to all of you for supporting me through my tuning trials and tribulations!
