Default New to bow hunting and need a reliable bow

I am new to the sport of bow hunting and it is something that has interested me for a while. I am now looking for a bow and all of the essentials and would appreciate some help. I would like to know what a good bow to start out with would be. The bow also has to be inexpensive. Appreciate it!

You can get a different answer from everyone but it boils down to most bows nowadays are reliable. Best thing you can do as a begginer is go to a reputable pro shop in your area and shoot as many different bows as they have in your price range. They may even have some used bows. As a first time buyer I would never buy from a catalog or internet.

Two that I can think of right off the top of my head are the Hoyt Ultrasport, and the Parker Hunter Mag. Both are under 400 dollars and pretty forgiving designs. I like the hoyt ultra sport so much that if I wouldn't have bought my bowtech I would have went with that bow instead of any of the more expensive Hoyts. You could also look at the reflex line. They are pretty much the same thing as hoyt (made by hoyt, with the same cams), just a bit cheaper in some instances.

There are many others and I'm sure you will get others opinions. Those are my two top picks though. You can get the hunter mag in package as well, comes with a sight, rest, arrows and a release, other stuff too. I think the whole package retails for around 400 some dollars. I haven't looked at them lately, but I'm sure it's under 500 bucks.

Good luck,
Paul

I'll second PSE. Great reliable bows that don't cost and arm and a leg. You wouldn't be disapointed.

I would caution you that it is a little too late to expect to hunt this year if you are new. To be effective at shooting it takes a lot more practice than shooting a gun.

I have always used stuck with the Mathews brand. They are great shooting bows, and extemely accurate, and I have never had a problem with them at all.

Well, the original (solid limb, amongst im sure other things) was my first modern compund 6 years ago or so and it was decent from what I rememner (i was like 13 so archery technology wasnt on the top of my mind)... Now I shoot a fred bear trx and I like it and it seems very reliable so far (knock on wood)
