Default New Hunter Help

I am a beginning bowhunter and the bow I have is very difficult to draw. It is a Bear Buckmaster BTR with a draw weight of 55 lbs at 28". I'm 5'3".

What would be a good bow for me to start off with?

Just go to your local pro shop and shoot a bunch of bows. Find the one that you are comfortable with and is in your price range, and go from there. Its all about the individual shooter, so find what you like.

If you like the bow you have go to a archary shop and have them adjust it to fit you better, most places will do it for free or really cheap. Thats what I would do!

I'm sure that bow can be backed down to 50lbs if it's too hard to draw now .But I have to agree with the others if your going to get another bow ,go to your local pro shop and get yourself measured and see what they have to offer you.

And at 5'3" I am sure your draw length is shorter than 28 inches. That's how tall I am and mines closer to 25-26 inches. Having too long of draw length makes a bow very hard to pull.

I agree with the others, go to a shop and see what they can do. Have them set your draw length properly, then turn down the poundage to where you can draw it comfortably. Then get some arrows to match your new set up.

I don't know what it would it would cost, but less than a new bow for sure.

But if your intent on a new bow, check out the Hoyt Ultrasport. Very nice bow for the money. Parker makes a few inexpensive bows as well that are excellent. I would pick the hoyt myself though. Especially if your just starting out. It has some very forgiving specs, and draws pretty smooth.

Good luck,
Paul
