Two senior NCO’s in my Battalion, one of which has been recently transferred to my company, approached me today about starting a archery program on our basecamp. One of these guys bowhunts, but has little technical knowledge, and the other gun hunts and is looking to get into archery. Since I have more experience than these guys, they asked if I would be interested in participating. Of course I jumped at the chance. I think it would be a great way to further the sport. They have already asked a few of other soldiers if they would be interested, most of whom have never shot a bow. Almost everyone said they would be interested if for no other reason than to have something to do. Since there are about 2500 soldiers on this basecamp we should be able to create at least a few new archers/bowhunters.
They have already cleared it through the chain of command as a MWR (Morale, Welfare, and Recreation) activity and secured an empty, but airconditioned warehouse to use as a range. The problem now is the lack of equipment. Since there are no MWR funds available to us, we are looking for other sources.
That said, I come to you hat in hand, to ask if anyone has any old equipment that they are not using that they would be willing to donate. It would be greatly appreciated.
You can either PM me or email me at:

Thank you.
Chris

Read between these lines>>
I got this from panzer today>
Hood,
The natives have been getting restless but it's not as bad as the news makes out. We have had a few firefights lately and there quite a few less of them running around now.
The first 2 bows came in last night. I set one of them up and took it out to shoot. You can't imagine how good it was good to get a bow back in my hands again. I drew quite a crowd of spectators too. A lot of them asked questions and now I've got a few more people interested.
--------------------------------------------------
Few Firerfights and thinning the crowd may cone easy to 3 war Vet like Panzer, But what he starting in Baghdad will help the young Troops mentally get thru (Thinning the Crowd while the crowd is trying the thin them!)
There's no place for this troops to get any archery equipment but US, that's us, as in Americans..Thank you
shipping is to a NY APO office and is cheap, round up soon odds and ends and let's help our boys get through this..

Well, like davidmil, if the Hood would have identified, I wouldn't be as skeptical. I've got a cobra pilot who's like a little brother to me in country and he, like others there have acquired archery equipment. Step up Hood... identify. J-NET can confirm.

I think we're gonna be able to introduce a lot of people to the sport. I've polled a few of the troops and haven't ran into anyone yet that wasn't interested. We've got about 2500 guys on this basecamp who, for the most part, are bored out of their minds. Except for the 2-3 hours of partols a day there isn't a lot to do here. DVD's and video games get old after a while.
The nearest pro shop is probably in Europe so I'm gonna have to do the wrenchin' the keep the bows running myself. If you have any contacts that can hook it up, I'm gonna need some support equipment such as a fletching jig to repair arrows, a bow square, maybe even a portable press.
Thanks again.
