Jasker,

It's easy! Trust me. Which unit did you get?

I found the best way to become proficent was to get out and use it. You can get coordernates from http://www.geocaching.com/ enter your zip and get some that are close to home. Enter then as a way point and then find the geo cache. The unit should lead you right to it. Hands on was the only way I learned.

Go to maptools ,
you can learn anything you need to learn about orienteering there and they have all kinds of info and tools for it . The GPS section is very informative .

You probably already know this, but it is important to remember that the GPS unit will not give you the same position everytime. What I mean is, you may mark a tree stand location and then go try and find it and the GPS unit will put you 20 or 30 feet from where you originally marked the stand location.

There should be a position error margin or indicator somewhere on the display saying something like 15 feet or 25 feet when you are getting your position from the GPS unit.

Something to keep in mind so you do not get frustrated and think that the GPS unit might not be working.
