From seeing it I would say it's definitley not genetic. The one side is beautiful, the small side is so much smaller, there's just no way that it could be genetic IMO.
As far as taking him or not......I'm not sure. Will he live, possibly, I don't think that area is heavily hunted but who knows. If he and that other bruiser come under my stand I'm definitley taking the symetrical one.
Thanks for you opinions everyone.

Some deer that are in velvet get hurt and it messes the antlers up, then guess what they drop off and grow new one, that are bigger, better and not damaged. So yes he next year he will be fine, but i doubt he will still be in that area.

Davidw, yes he was still in velvet.
Turkey fan, i disagree with you, i think he will be in that area again next year, barring he doesn't die somehow before then.

The biggest buck I shot with a bow was an 8 pointer that had 4 on one side that were very wide and long tines and 4 on the other that was half the size. I measured the big side with a carpenters square from the bases and when I squared up the other side at the same measurement it would have had a 19" spread inside but it was just over 15 when acually measured. While butchering the deer it had a bullet hole in the neck above the spine and another in the backstraps. Both were healed over. I blame the old injurys for the funny rack.

If he was in velvet then my guess is that he injured the pedicle on that side as the rack started to develope. Chances are he will carry these this year and then be back to normal next year.
