Default If not scent-lok then....

I was curious as to what people use if they don't use scent lok. i have been reading all of these articles on here and that other site about how scent lok doesn't do that much and how it really only has a certain life. now i shower almost everytime i go hunting, where rubber boots with scent pads and spray down when i get to the field. i am still thinking about buying a new scent lok coveralls and using that new x static as a bas layer. my question is....what do you use if you don't use scent-lok?

Carbon can help reduce the bulk odor from your body ,
but it doesn't last forever , nothing does . I use Army MOPP suits , they're cheap , warm , and disposable . In warmer(over 40 deg.) weather I wear plain old light weight camo and hunt the wind . I also shower and use scent reducing products like baking soda , and I think rubber boots are overrated . You can smell rubber , so can they . Like Sho-me said , hunt the wind .

i hunted rifle for years before taking up bow hunting. since i have gotten into this close quarters hunting i have become a firm believer in scent control. if you have the time, and patience, etc -hunting the wind is almost always a good bet. problem is, a lot of muture bucks (and wary does) will only come into to attractants/calls from downwind. i have robinson scent blocker equipment and use it for both bow and gun hunting. i also rely almost solely (no pun intended) on rubber boots. i hunted the same stand 3 days in a row and saw the same 3 does come by and not even look up at me. on the fourth day i had leather boots on and was promptly busted. i try to use every advantage i can get! buying some scent lok stuff is not a big price to pay compared to a hunting trip -or worse - losing a big buck!

I've never bought into the carbon clothes stuff. So, I wash my clothes in baking soda and let them air dry. Then I bag 'em up in a PAPER sack (I think plastic bags impart their odor to the clothes) with a few sprigs of juniper and some oak leaves (the kind of vegetaion I hunt around), and change from my street clothes to my huntin' clothes when I get there. And I take a bath in baking soda before hunting.

Then I hunt however the wind tells me to hunt.

If you really want to get serious about scent control, you'd need to shave every hair off your body. You can get your skin clean, but not your hair. It holds onto all kinds of bacteria and odors. Hair stinks!

ijsut bought some scentlok last week , i plan on hunting the wind a little more smartly this year , in the past i have had luck without scentlok , just spraying down , keeping camo hung up outside , and using the non scent shower products ....

but it seemed those real big bucks jsut wouldnt pull into range or get into the open enough for a shot , was it because they smelt me , maybe , but we shall see this year i guess....

I want to try those new X scent under garments that are made with strands of actual silver woven into the material , they r supposed to elminate scent as well as repel skeeters!!! that would be awesome , nothing worse then that high piitched buzz around ur ears in warm weather hunts....

Baking Soda all the way!!!

It lasts for days and will continue to absorb scents the entire time!

I have my head shaved bald the entire season and keep it short buzz cut the rest of the year.

Neoprene boots with baking soda sprinkled inside and washed after the hunt in baking soda.
I make a mixture of baking soda and hot water and spray it on everything I hunt with.

I keep my bow, arrows, release, gloves, mask, and hat in my bow case then I keep a clean dry sock full of baking soda (tied of course) in my bow case, keeps everything scent free!

No need for scent-lok or anything else - I've had lots of deer walk up on me from directly down wind while I was sitting on the ground and they never knew I was there! 2 years ago I video taped an old swayback buck stop and freeze on my 'walking in' trail - that was the last day I wore leather boots!!!

I'd fill a bottle 1/3 full of baking soda and the rest with Hot Water.
I have not used Distilled water in the past - like Double Creek has suggested in another recent post- but it is a good idea and I will start to use it this year. I have an unlimited supply of DI water where I work.
