I sat till 1:00pm and seen the biggest buck of my life. He didnt some close enough to shoot but the experience for me was unreal. I know ill be sitting a lot longer in the treestand this year. Well good luck man!!

COWBOYSFAN ,
boy you've got a loud name !
I try to stay on stand all day , and I see more deer as a result . Pack a lunch and some water and stay out longer . Deer pattern hunters , so the big boys know that woods is empty during midday and they are safe . Of course , they're normally safe from me anyway ... [&o]

It's not even the mid day action that you have been missing. You been missing late morning and early afternoon. If I hunted the hours that you hunt I would not have killed 4 of the 6 deer that I killed last year. Of the 6 I killed one was a:
a doe at 9:30 in the morning
a 9 pt at 3:00 o'clock in the afternoon
an 8 pt at 10:45 in the morning and
another doe at 1:00 o'clock in the afternoon
I normally stay on stand all day on the weekends from Nov. 1 - Jan. 1

I used to hunt till 9:30-10, now I try to stay to 11-11:30. A couple times I went out last year from 10-3 and saw nothing. I don't think I could make it dark to dark in a single stand.

I have seen and killed some of my best bucks during the mid day. If you can cuff it out, sitting all day, especially during the rut, will really pay off.
Like stated, when, during a full moon is an excellent time for the deer to be restless during the mid day. Deer tend to get up and feed during the quiet late morning, mid afternoon hours. One other thing I noticed is that it is really not prevelent till the weather starts getting a little colder. Toward mid-late October. I think the deer kick the feeding into high gear during this time once the acorns begin really coming down to put on more fat for winter.

Two years ago I killed a buck at 2 in the afternoon right after it had quit snowing, last year I killed a buck at 3:30 in the afternoon. Over the years I have killed deer at almost evry hour of the day, rut in or out. Deer move, when deer move, they don't punch a clock or follow a real schedule of any sort. Some of the biggest bucks get that way because they do not move at the same hours as many other deer in their area do. May bucks that folks claim "Have gone nocturnal" will move in the middle of the day while most hunters are home eating lunch!!!

Hard to believe that after all the months of anticipation, preparation, and practice that you'd be bored by 8am opening day - heck opening week for that matter!
