That is an interesting devise - just don't know if I have enough b**ls to try it. I had a dry fire once (by accident) when checking out a release. It was on my carbon extreme. Had the string break rap about by the bow and snap me on be the back of my arm. I had a deep bruise and a cut from it. Bad stuff.

back about 17 yrs ago me and my uncle were at a roses dept. store and he picked up an indian bow and a release,(we had never seen a release before)and drew back, needless to say what happened.we pretty much ran out of the store........i was in bass pro shops in nashville back in aug. and some guy in there dry-fired a Fred Bear epic extreme and one of the staff walked over and snatched it away from him...if you ever want to be the center of attention, walk into a pro-shop and dry-fire a bow

Certainly wasn't intentional but when I was shopping for a new bow I had an accident. They had the limbs cranked all the way down and it was rather warm in the building. My first time drawing a bow and my hand slipped off the handle and the bow dry fired. Didn't hit me in the mouth but I felt like an idiot.

SOme time later when I was shopping there (bass pro hq) I saw one of their employees dry fire a bow after he drew it about 2/3 of the way back and he thought nothing of it. The employees were just joking around and cuttin up. Pissed me off cause some guy will come buy that bow not knowing that it'd been dry fired. A lesson; always get a "new" one from a box and not off the shelf.

Thanks, I thought thier was someone who made a device, just could not remember the name.
I would be interested in seeing one in action before I bought it though.

never on purpose but I did see a guy dry fire a Jennings Carbon extreme a few years back on accident....sounded like a dang rifle going off 50 yards away! not to mention the nice crack in the upper limb...

Was in a bowshop working with a clear on my bow when a guy in the back starts to dry fire a bow. Over and over again he dry fires the bow and the clerks are yelling, running to get the guy so he stops. The clerk turned to me and said "they can yell all they want, the guy is deaf". LOL

HEHEHE! That's a good one! Watched it happen several times a couple years back when working at a pro shop. It's usually the same scenario. "New guy comes in, doesn't want any help because he and his buddies know-it-all, picks a bow off the rack, draws it back, can't believe how easy it is to hold...CRACK!" Most held up but saw a couple grenades.

I always thought you should have the limbs x-rayed after a dry fire. Maybe you can see the cracks, maybe you can't. I know a guy whose neighbor dry fired his bow, he had it xrayed and it showed the damage, got new limbs from his neighbor.

I'm looking forward to getting my first bow this summer and i have heard that you should never dry fire your bow. BUT, i have never been told what happens when you dry fire a bow. So far I know that you can crack a limb and and you can really mess up your string (I saw that in a pro shop). What I would like to know is: What else can happen from dry firing your bow?
