Swamps and thickets are my thing. I don't care to see 20 or 30 deer 100 yards away. Give me one at point blank and I'm in Heaven. I like the smell of the woods, the other critters running around, figuring out trails and patterns and then hunting them. I really can't stand watching a big open field and watching deer feed for 2 hours out of range. Nothing quite as good as hemlocks and decaying leaves on a crisp fall morning. I'll hunt hardwoods when they're hitting the acorns but if I can find a spot where the underbrush comes in tight or there is a little sappling grove... that's where I'll be.

Swamps /thickets for me too !! Unless I am strictly going on a doe hunt.......then I will probably hunt a field (food plot) !!

I am most partial to swamps. I like the security it offers those big bucks, but not all swamps are created equal.

Where I hunt and where I'd like to hunt are two different things! If I could I'd hunt an apple orchard and other crops with a crop damage permits! Too bad they said no! I'm stuck in the hardwoods/thickets.

In hardwoods, just on the edge of a swamp - catch them going in and out of the swamp.

I just like to hunt the best possible signs!! Doesn't matter where it is. If all were equal, I like hunting oak ridges on the edge of low/swampy/brushy bedding area!

Good Luck!

Swamps, just inside, off the entry/exit trails and not too far from the marsh plains where the creeks and rivers feed the swamps.

None of the above! I hunt regenerating clearcuts....usually near hardwoods. There are no swamps or fields where I hunt!

Hardwoods because that is what most of our property is.
