I was wondering what type of broadhead everyone uses and why?
Last year I used a cut on contact broadhead, but after talking with some of my friends who have been bow hunting a lot longer then me, I think I am going to try the trocar tip heads this year.

I like cut up fronts. But, muzzy heads have also worked well. The reason i like the cut up front though is that, in most cases, if it doesnt go through, nothin else would of either.

I personally like snuffer and G5 montec designs as I think it combines the best of both worlds. plus there are no blades to replace so they are reusable. If you do a test to compare the pressure needed for each style to penetrate something like hide and then look at the similaities in tip design I think you might like the two heads I mentioned above.

FWIW, I sharpen the tips of my wife's Muzzy's so you can almost shave with them....that makes it just about a C-O-C head.

I used to do the same thing to my Muzzy's until WASP came out with that SST tip.
I may shoot some Muzzy 100 grain 4 bladers this year. Got that itch for the 4 blades cutting.
As to the original question
For mechs I like the new cut on contact tips due to possible deflection issues on quartering shots (never had it happen to me, but I've seen it happen). For fixed blades, I prefer the trocar type tips for strength...lot more area/cross section to absorb a heavy impact (i.e. bone) than a (relatively) thin surface of a cut on contact tip.
IMO of course

I prefer my broadheads to be all one welded up assembly instead of various and sundry pieces and parts all screwed together. I want to know that my main cutting edges are going to remain with the ferrule of the head, whether the tip gets curled or not. So, I use cut on contact heads.
Just another of my little quirks.
