Fletching tape is da bomb

Fletching tape is da bomb
I fletched 3 arrows with a JoJan mono fletcher tonight in less than 5 minutes with the tape. Just a dab of glue front & back and good to go. Durability seems to be good as well, I've already got gaps in them from shooting so close to one another and have not lost one fletch. I have never fletched an arrow with feathers this fast.

I put the feather in the clamp 1st then put the tape on and trimmed to length. Use a small pair of sharp scissors to trim, stick it to the arrow with soem pressure for a second or two and you're done. After they are all complete, just put a drop of glue front & back and that's it.

Sounds like your liking the tape, Mike. Let us know if you have any durability issues after shooting for a bit. I was going to try tape this time around, but opted for glue because I wasn't sure of the tape's durability.

RE: Fletching tape is da bomb
Jason, I've been using the tape for 3 years and I'm sold on the stuff. I've shot through the edge of a bag target and had the feathers stay firmly stuck. I shot one arrow through a bale of hay 30 times to see if I could make the feathers come loose. They didn't. I can only think of 3 feathers that have popped loose on me in the past 3 years. No worse than glue.
I've lost arrows and found them again months later, after laying sunbaked in 110 degree heat, rained on, snowed on, sleeted on and - even though the barbs were usually rotted off - the feather quills were still stuck firmly to the shaft. Arrows lost for a week or two just needed a little TLC over the steam to get the feathers revived and shooting again.
The tape sticks great on aluminum, carbon, fiberglass and wood arrow shafts. It sticks on all kinds of laquer, poly and paint finishes and cresting wraps. You don't mess up your crown dips or cresting when it's time to refletch. Just peel the feathers off, clean up the adhesive residue, carefully scrape the little spots of glue you tagged down the ends of your feathers with and refletch.
Only drawback about the tape is it doesn't work very well with plastic vanes. It's intended for feathers.

Thanks Arthur! I asked a question about feather tape a couple of weeks ago, and got very little response.....so I bought glue! I'm sick of superglue type adhesives, so I'm trying Bohning Platinum....I hope it works well. I'll definetly try the tape in the future. I've seen that the tape is only intended for feathers, not a problem for me for a couple of years at least!

RE: Fletching tape is da bomb
Last season, another shooter said he was having great results with the tape. However, I do recall that he said he discovered that, at least for him, the tape worked best if allowed to set for 24 hours.

They must have improved it quite a bit in the past several years.
I tried some from the company that originally brought it out (name escapes me), and also Bohnings and had nothing but trouble with it, no matter how long I let it set. the ends would start to curl before the glue (even instants) would set.
I'll stick with old fashioned-glue for my old-fashioned feathers
BTW for anyone interested;the new Fletch-Tite Platinum RAWKS! A little bit thinner but the bond is stronger, and sets in about 1/3 less time.

I just got a roll of "Feather Fast" fletching tape. Went into the shop to get a qwickie quiver mount & asked about it after seeing this post last night.
He gave it to me free. Said he had it a couple mos. & it wasn't selling. Since he mostly fletches with vanes he didnt need it himself. I like feathers personally & if it really works will cut fletching time way back.
Thanks for the info as I probably never would have gave it a try had I not seen positive comments here.
I'll post my results soon as I need to fletch some shafts.
