Default Is my dl too long

It is 27" and every once in awile I get a little slap. The loop is about 1/2 inches too long. If I cut the 1/2" off the loop will that help?

Zak looking at you pictures and reading your other posts something isn't adding up here. You say that arrow is 27 inches long. It looks like the tip is right at the end of the rest, right around the burger hole. Ture draw on bows is measured from the grip, AMO draw is measured 1.5 inches past the grip. If that arrow is 27 inches long then you have a AMO draw of about 28 to 28.5 inches. Not a short draw at all.. All calculators use AMO draw length when they use it to calculate speed. How did you come up with the speed of your arrow?

Seems to me that PSE at least looks like a PSE, should be shooting a 320 grain arrow faster that 220. Especially if it is 60 lbs.

I have 60 lb bows with 28.5 AMO draw and they shoot 320 grain arrows 280.

Something just isn't adding up??? So, What is your draw weight measured on a scale? How are you measuring you draw length? How are you measuring your arrow weight?

I'm so sorry. My specs as of now are: 27" draw, 52 lbs, and 26 inch arrow
When hunting season comes: 27" arrow 27" draw and 55-60 lbs
I forgot to tell everyone that those specs are future specs. Sorry

So that bow in your hands in the picture, is set at 52 lbs. Now for max speed build a lighter arrow. 52 times 5 equals 260 total lightest arrow weight. It hard to build an arrow that light but it could be done. that would give you maximum speed, however it won't give maximum Kinetic energy.

If you plan to hunt with 55lbs 5 times 55 is 275, which is the lightest you should use. I would go with an arrow that weighs in around 350 grains and I would use a small broadhead around one inch in diameter.

Still you stated speed of 220 for a 320 grain arrow doesn't seem right for that bow for some reason..

what was that bow's IBO rateing????

Ibo rated at 294 which means if it were 70 lbs and 30 inch draw it would shoot a 350 grain arrow 294 feet per second. Now you have a 320 grain arrow and 27 inch draw set at 52 lbs. Seems to me your set up should be closer to 240 or so.. ?????

Could some of you post pics of you while drawing your bow? That would help me a lot.

Zak: The worst thing you can do is post pictures on this forum and ask someone like me to critique your form/DL.

First, let me correct something Bees posted. AMO draw lenght is 1 3/4" past the throat and not 1 1/2". Sorry, Bees.

Next, you posted:
"I'm so sorry. My specs as of now are: 27" draw, 52 lbs, and 26 inch arrow
When hunting season comes: 27" arrow 27" draw and 55-60 lbs
I forgot to tell everyone that those specs are future specs."

This is backwards. During the hunting season you should reduce your draw length if you're inclined to changing it. Actually, if your DL is correct, you should never change it.

Now, looking at your DL/form. You need a lot of help. The DL is definitely too long. Your bow shoulder looks like it's in your left ear. It's definitely too high. Look at the way you're leaning backwards, check out the extended arm, notice the red spot on your bow arm, and check out the almost 'high' wrist. Speaking of the wrist, your grip needs a lot of work. You've got too much 'hand' into the bow. The grip of the bow should be on the pad of your thumb; or, keep the 'lifeline' off the grip. Another thing is that the wrist strap appears to be too tight. And finally, although I can't get into shoulder, waist and foot position due to the simplicity of pictures, your fingers are backwards. The top fingers should be touching the thumb and the bottom fingers should be loose. This will be argued by a few, but there are good reasons for it.

Hope this helps start some searching for answers. IMPO, you'd do good to contact a certified instructor before you develop any more bad habits.

I normaly have all of my fingers off the grip. I rest it on the meaty part of the thumb. Also I took it to the bow shop to install a new peep, and they said it was too short. They adjusted it to 27" and said it was exactly right. I said it felt weird, but he said just lean back a little. I took some shots there and told him I was getting slapped. He said bend your arm. Some help he was. I came here and posted how he told me to shoot so I could see if he was wrong.
