RE: first bowkill how far did you have to track your kill
My 1st bow kill came when I was about 12 years old. The man next door called me over to shoot a rat that had got in his drum of dog food. It just ran in a couple of circles then died. The shot was almost stright down. The field tip, supprisingly, caused a pretty good blood trail.
I hope to get a whitetail some day!

my first (and only) bowkill was a 27 yd slightly quartering to me double lung and slight liver shot. . waited 15 minutes and started the tracking job. she ran 40 yds into the woods where i couldnt see her go down and there she was.

40 yards. Double lunged him... twice. My 2nd bowkill was a different story however. I was using an old Bear that shot about 150 fps, and he literally moved back and I hit him in the base of the neck and he went about 300 yards.

November 1st, 2001.
Equipment:
Darton 400mx
Cobra brass pin sight
tm hunter rest
Easton 2317 arrows
steelhead 100s
20 yard shot ripped through the 6 points lung and liver and buried deep into the ground. Didn't know what hit him becuase he hardley flinched. He just continued to mosey along before expiring 30 yards from where he was shot.

About 60 yards I guess?.........A spike from the ground. One of my longest shots still to this day, a paced off 35 yards (Smaller steps back then)
I can remember how excited I was walking up to where he was standing, and seeing the arrow just laying in the leaves covered in blood.
I didn't see the arrow hit, but just had that "Feeling", I made myself sit down right there and count backwards from 1000. I think I made it to about 350 and couldn't take it anymore.
It was a perfect slightly quartering away double lung shot, and the trail is still crystal clear in my head as it angled down off the bench I was standing on.
When I found the deer I was so excited I threw my hat into the air and got it stuck in a treebranch. Then I remember sitting quietly with that little buck for what must have been about 10 minutes, just taking in the moment....what a day.
