BOWHUNTING...CAN'T BE BEAT!!
It was the 2nd weekend of bowhunting and I was in my "west wind" stand. Wasn't an hour gone by when I heard a leaf crackle noises getting closer & closer. Then, there he was! The BIG GUY! HUGE 8pt buck I had seen weeks before. He came within 30 yards then started to quarter away to my left. I drew my Hoyt "pro-hunter" back and ALMOST released...when I noticed a 2nd set of legs coming out from under the tree branches, and just behind the deer I had full-draw on currently. I waited to see what it was, still at full-draw. Whoa! a 2nd P&Y buck following the 1st!! I very slowly let my draw back down as these 2 bucks got a bit closer. Men, my heart was outta my mouth! But, you will never guess what is next! A 3rd buck shows up! And he IS the ONE!! The 14 pointer I hoped I'd get even a glimpse of! And here he is at 30 yards!! All 3 of these bucks are almost nose to butt following each other! DEFINITELY a once in a lifetime experience!!
I draw my bow, put the 30 yd pin on his lung/heart area, release and the arrow finds its mark! The 14 pt runs out approx. 40 yds from the arrow hit. He turns and looks back at me as if to say, "you finally got close enough". He then begins to sway and falters to the ground, expired. This is in a area that is still with standing corn. I cannot see alot then, but, after this "once in a lifetime buck does fall, another, smaller buck came over to see what the 14 pter was doing, and to my amazement, began to fight(rack) the fallen 14 pter! I'd wished to this day I had brought my cam-corder along!
Hard to believe, but so VERY TRUE!!
The 14 pointer grossed 176 6/8 & net at 166 2/8 P&Y. It was 1988...a VERY GOOD YEAR FOR ME!!
Best of Bowhunting to you!

Fantastic story, I look forward to my first bow kill. Ahh it will come and I know for a fact even if it is a doe I will be more excited over it than a huge 8 point I killed in 74.
