Huh? Don't know where you heard that, but it's not true. The only restriction on broadheads is they must be at least 7/8" wide.

When did that rule go into effect? I always used 100 grain when I lived there.

I just read through their regulations and I don't see any where it says this. Where are you getting your info?

The only thing I found on the Virginia Fish and Game site was this....

While hunting deer with bow and arrow the following restrictions apply:

Arrowhead widths must be at least 7/8-inch wide or expand upon impact to 7/8-inch.
Bows must be capable of propelling a broadhead arrow at least 125 yards

He is a rifle hunter and is probably talking about 100 and 125 grain bullets......don't think he has ever bowhunted.

125 works just great for me! I like the extra weight....I get better flight at longer ranges.

I'm glad to see you're really getting into this bowhunting. You will enjoy it. Its a great time of year. I've been bowhunting for over 30 years now and used to use 125 gr broadheads. Now I exclusively use Muzzy 100 gr 3 blade broadheads. I believe these have a 1 1/16" cutting width which meets most state laws and they fly as good as field tips thru a properly set up bow.

compound shooting up to 55# = 100 gr.
55-75#= 100-125 gr.
Traditionals.........................= 125-145 gr. range
This is simple keep it simple. But if your state doesn't allow 100 you'll have to live with it.

Who knows how much further a 100 gr. broadhead will fly compared to 125 gr. with 65 lbs pull weight?

I doubt there is much difference and certainly wouldn't affect hunting ranges. A heavier arrrow will retain more energy downrange and will not lose speed as quickly as a lighter arrow.
