I think it is recommended that you change your string every year if you shoot quite a bit. I'm not sure what "quite a bit" means, but if I shoot once a week, I would change the string each year. You should also keep an eye on the string's condition. If it starts fraying, that's not good. You should also keep it waxed. You might consult with a local pro shop to see what they think.

I change them twice a year, but I make my own, so it's cheap and easy.
The newer materials that have a lot of vectran in them, like Ultracam are very low-stretch strings. This is good, especially on single cams, but the material is somewhat brittle. Even though it's very strong, it will sometimes break without warning. Keep your string waxed (every time you shoot it, would not hurt), make sure it has plenty of twists in it, and change it once a year. That formula will keep most people from having to experience a string breaking at full draw. Believe me, that is worth avoiding.
