If this is what is called Porn then I'll never be able to watch TV again. Frankly, I'm a 56 year old red-blooded american and can say the young lady is a pleasant sight indeed. Much better then some guys I gotta shoot with every week. I just might have to start shooting for Martin.

You ought to be old enough to know better than falling for that. If they get this girl to model with Liberace are you gonna turn ***** , too??? And just because that kind of stuff is on TV???? Come on we all know TV is way over the line nowadays.
NEWSFLASH :::: Just because it's on TV doesn't make it ethical. GET REAL!!
Just so you all know, I think she is a pleasant sight , too, but the issue is whether this was suitable for this sport, remember???????

And we all wonder why sex sells. Just read through the "can you find the deer in this pic" thread.

The girl in the ad is certainly nice to look at but she sure ain't going to factor in with my decision to buy a bow. As far as pornographic is concerned. Not hardly!!!

Scott beard,
Your claim is one of the most exaggerted I've read on this forum. There is no sex act in that photo - period. Only your imagination could come up with that one. There is a pretty woman (wearing clothes) holding a bow. If you have something against pretty women, then you would be a lot like other women. Most don't like their men looking at them, and they don't have to be in an ad for them to disapprove.
Of course, we're all entitled to our opinion, and I've just stated mine.

IMO, the old Darton ads with the guy made up to look like a cross between the Incredible Hulk and Dracula was far worse - perfect rendition of bowhunters as bloodthirsty beasts. Don't remember a whole lot of griping about that ad campain. If I'm not mistaken, they also ran an ad for awhile with a well endowed lady in a latex devil suit that was unzipped down to her belly button. Don't remember a lot of griping about THAT one either.
News flash guys! Women have been depicted with bows for thousands of years. The Greek goddess Diana and the Roman goddess Artemis, for instance. The legendary Amazons too. And all those gals are generally shown wearing less clothes in contemporary illustrations than what the Martin girls are wearing.
Howard Hill made a film clip where he was demonstrating archery to a crowd of Hollywood starlets that were all dressed in short shorts and tight blouses and then filmed the girls shooting. Fred Bear's Archers Bible has pictures of women and girls shooting their bows. Maurice Thompson's Witchery of Archery from the 1870's has a whole chapter devoted to women and archery. Roger Ascham taught Queen Elizabeth I to shoot a bow. When the bow was displaced by the musket as a weapon of war, archery became the sport of the nobility. Male AND Female!
Most archers and bowhunters are, indeed, MALE these days. So Martin directs their advertising to their target audience. But that just shows how POORLY us guys have done our job at getting our wives and daughters involved in the sport.
Oh, but there's that problem again. Any girl wearing shorts and holding a bow is performing a sex act. Idiots!

I agree with you also scott. I don't believe this type of add has any place in a magazine. Archery is suppose to be a family sport and this does not promote family in any way. If you ask me if she is a pretty girl I would have to say yes but if you ask me if it would make me buy a Martin bow that would be a very deffinate no it would only push me away from their product. We get told to lighten up over expressing our opinion on this and there is nothing wrong with saying something is wrong when it is. I would also like to know that where do you draw the line to lighten up? SHould we have lightened up in Iraq? Should we lighten up over the twin towers? Should we lighten up if we see our mothers, sisters, or daughters in Hustler magazine? This it is what I believe and these type of adds show low moral standards. I am a Christian so when I look at this I just wonder if someday some people will look at satan and say lighten up.

THAT IS IT!!!!
I now refuse to drive any american muscle car or drink beer. I have seen all of these advertized using attractive women and many more products. Oh well, I guess I will have to crawl back into my cave and never come out!!
P.S. We could start making women wear veils like they do in other oppressive countrys.
