jumping the string what should i do?
i just got back from a two day hunt on our property and i took two shots at two does they both jumped the string and the arrow sailed over their backs what should i do
right now i have string leeches and thats it i figured its only a year old bow so it would be ok also i have the poundage dropped down to 45 lbs so i can draw it back with my heavy clothes on uncle says that the arrow is too slow and its giveing the deer too much time to drop any help would be great thanks

How far was the shot ? Just about the time you anticipate a deer jumping the string and aim low to compensate, the deer won't drop and you will shoot under it. Been there , done that ! What to do is a gamble. I now aim at the kill zone and hope for the best . I was always under the impression that 20 yds and under - no jump. Beyond 20 yards , they will jump the string. The main problem is - the deer don't know the rule . [8D]

Every shot that ever goes high is blamed on "jumping the string"
There are other factors that are "shooter related" that seldom get blamed
Incorrect form from a tree stand can often lead to high shots.
Incorrect yardage estimations
When you turned the bow down in poundage - did you resight it in?
Buck or Doe fever
Check out all of them

yes i sighted it in after letting it down they were both at 20 yards(range finder) i practice religously from my stands whenever i put a new one up and can keep a 3" group so i doubt it was my fault and i felt very calm but who knows maybe i put the wrong pin on her without thinking because of a mental lapse

IMO the 15 to 25 yard range is the most likely to have a deer duck out on you.
The further away - the less chance of a deer ducking the arrow because the sound of the bow is not as loud and at a further distance to the deer.

Yessir Rack, the closer the animal the more they react to the noise. My guess, from what Ive read here is that the bow and/or accessories are making enough noise to spook the deer at the shot. That's what most deer react to anyway. And that's why "quiet" wins the battle most of the time.
