how expensive is it to get into bowhunting?

RE: how expensive is it to get into bowhunting?
It kind of depends on how much you want to get into it. But, it can be relatively cheap if you don't need all the best stuff like top of the line tree stands etc...
You can get a bow package for about $300 - $500 which would include a bow, rest, quiver, sight and possibly arrows and a release. Such as a PSE nova or fire flight. Parker, Bear, alpine as well as others have package deals too.
Here is a list of things that I would want to start out in archery hunting.
Bow package = $300 - $500 (bow, rest, quiver, sight)
arrows = $45 for a dozen aluminum
release = $40
stabilizer = $15 - $50
Sims silencing products = $30
field tips = $2
bag target = $40
Broadheads = $30 per six
optional stuff
tree stand = $150 (climbing)
Binoculars = $150
range finder = $250
Then you can still get into lots of other stuff if you want too.
One thing for sure though, put in the time at the range to practice a lot.

Or you could go this route:
Used Pearson or Shakespeare recurve - $50-75
Half dozen arrows - $30
Shooting glove - $15
-or tab - $7
Armguard - $10
Half dozen Broadheads - $15
3 judo points - $20
Byron Ferguson's book 'Become the Arrow' - $20
There is no great need to become addicted to all the mechanical devices that are rampant in bowhunting today. It takes some time and personal involvement to develop your shooting skills but I honestly do not believe it takes a great deal more than learning to shoot a compound with all the gadgetry.

archery hunting is an entirely different sport. Much better in my opinion.
How much were you planning on spending? Buy mostly used gear, and it is fairly cheap.

Get into archery first...then hunt.
Along the same lines as Art P... I just bought a used Shakespeare traditional recurve bow off of Ebay for $32. I bought a dozen aluminum arrows to fit it for $60. I bought a finger tab for $10. Thats it, I'm ready to go shoot for just over a $100.
I've been a long time compound shooter, but I decided to take the challange of traditional shooting a few weeks ago. My wife is happy that I only spent this much and it will be enough to see if I'm man enough to handle it
