Hog Tactics
Hi guys,
I am going hog hunting next month and have killed a couple of hogs in the past but I need some advice. Do the hog calls I see do any good? What are some tactics that I could use to score on a hog on a ranch that gets hunted quite abit. I don't have a ground blind but could make one if needed. I was just wondering if still hunting would be effective if I used a hog call once in a while or what do you guys recommend?

RE: Hog Tactics
3d...I hunt hogs like I hunt deer. Their noses are awsome.
I have a friend in Texas who owns a hog hunting ranch so I get to hunt hogs quite a bit. Hogs get real smart after they have been hunted awhile. If your going to hunt feeders just rememberthe big boys don't come out till just about dark.
As far as hog calls go I've never had any luck with them. But I have had luck with making that soft low grunt they make when a bunch of them are feeding. After you hear it a couple times it's easy to do youself.
I don't know what time of year you are going but if the weather's hot still hunt close to water. And good hog wallows are a great place to stake out. Good Luck

I dont use a hog call
all I can say if the rach has been hunted hard then the hogs are going to be smart
probably the best way to go about it is spot and stalk
If they have feeders set up and they have been hunted hard then the hogs wont come in till after dark.
with spot and stalk just make sure you have an escape route ie a tree you can get up in a hurry them suckers can put some serious hurt on a man
I know I have a 12 inch scare on my right thigh from a hog

When I lived in Texas and hunted Hogs on a friends ranch we took a coffie can 3/4 full of corn and add 2cups of water mixed with 4cups of suger...put it about 10 to 20 yards from your tree stand... always worked for me

I've heard about hog hunting on this forum before, I beleive someone said because they are omnivor's that a distress call would bring them running? Good luck.<img src=icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle>

Mix a 5 gallon bucket of strawberry jello and pour it in the spot you want to hunt, we have used this for years and it has yet to fail us. They'll tear the area up and you can bet they'll be back for more.
