Buck Making Clicking Noise..
Anyone ever hear a buck making a low clicking sound? I understand they will do this when trailing or searching for a doe. I had this happen tonight after hitting my doe in a can call a few times. He never came into view but kept a distance of about 30 yds (guess). I was in a thick swamp where visibility ends at about 10-15 yds in many directions. By dark he never came in and I left him.
Can anyone confirm this sound? Is it for sure a buck?

I' ve heard bucks make the click numerous times. All were small bucks steadily walking past my stand. I' ve never heard a mature buck make it. Could be cause I' m focusing on shooting them tho and no longer paying attention to anything other than the shot.

I don' t believe that the " click" is a vocal sound. I' ve heard it a few times before, but only on deer that are moving. I think it is a joint, or tendon, that actually causes the noise that you are hearing.

I' ve only heard it one time. It was an awesome 8 ptr trailing a couple does. I' ve heard hunters on videos mimick the sound trying to call deer in. I' ve tried it when hunting too but haven' t called any in. I' m probably using it in the wrong situation.

I agree, it is vocal. I' ve been real close to them while making it too many times to mistake it for any thing else. If I could get the reed in my grunt call to flap or click just once, it would sound close.

So are you all saying.." get back out there" I had done a little soft grunting also mixed in with the doe in heat bleats. Why was this guy so shy about coming in? Might it have been because he was interested but still a little shell shocked? Our firearms season ended yesterday. The second rut should not be in full swing but might be just starting. I' ve also herd a lot of the breeding during the second rut is done by the lesser bucks? Anyone agree. The big guys had their share and are trying to put back on the weight they lost.

The clicking sound is usually made by a Buck who is following a doe or is seeking a doe that will not breed with him. Sorta like us when we say dang it or whatever word you use when you get frustrated.
Generally bucks who tend to do this are not the dominant buck in the area.
