How do you keep an Ol' Man from flopping?
Pretty good title, huh? Sounds like the start of a bad joke. Anyway:
When setting up on large trees, the arms on my original Ol' Man tend to flop open, making it very difficult to catch the cable to insert in the other side. How do you stop this. After several attempts, it gets me all frustrated and stressed out in the dark and I start sweating. Would some twine between the arm and the center notch be a good idea to keep it from flopping out very far?

That' s funny, I sold my summit to buy an ol man.
As for the arms, I' ve not really had your problem. Stand to the side and reach around holding the near side against the tree with your hip. THat frees your hand to grab the cable.

I just bought my first climber. I bought an API Grand Slam Extreme Bowhunter (@$175+tax). I have had pretty good luck with it.
The only issue I have had is if the tree is getting close to the 24" max, it wants to slip more than usual.
As far as attatching it to the tree, an earlier post had the right idea of standing to side, resting the stand on your hip while the cable comes around the tree. If you hold the stand up at an angle the cable will want to fall back towards you on the other side of the tree. Your free hand should be able to grab it.
I don' t know if that made sense, but good luck anyway!

Holding it with my hip used to work. I guess the swivel joints are getting worn out, so there is not enough friction to hold it upright. I just thought of something: setting it on the ground against the tree, hooking my pull-up rope into the loop of the cable and walking around the tree so I have cable in hand easier. I just hate the extra walking around, snapping twigs, etc. I am seriously thinking about buying a new one with fixed position arms. I am really looking at the Summit or the Buckshot Centershot. I am leaning towards the Buckshot as I really like its attachment system and ease of adjustment in the air.

If they' re actually " flopping" like you said, then it sounds like the pivot arm bushings are worn. Ol Man sells a kit to replace them, but before I did that I would pop off the end covers and try and tighten them a bit. If that doesn' t work then get the kit.
My Ol Man is 4 yrs. old (I think), and hasn' t started flopping yet, but I' m still thinkin' of gettin rid of it......... for a new Multi Vision Ti Air Elite!
