First bow buck
After seven years of bowhunting, I finally harvested a buck.Last year was my first bow deer and it was a button buck.October 18th of this year I got a mature doe, and today at noon I got my first antlered buck.
My hunting budddy and I have learned alot together. We got our first bow deer(both buttons) within five minutes of each other, then he shot a doe opening day this year, and my doe this year was shot while I was standing in " his" tree with him watching over my shoulder.
Today we went to a spot different than we usually go that my buddy had found while pheasant hunting. My job (I volunteered) was to sit on top of the hill in the cornfield with a spotting scope and watch the deer while my buddy snuck down the creek to get in range. While the giant we had been watching never left the field, we saw LOTS of bucks chasing does. The plan was for me to join him down by the creek, but I was having too much fun watching the deer and talking to my buddy in the creek about them. I looked up and saw a buck chasing two does in my direction and thought...." maybe I' ll knock an arrow just in case" and there they were. The does ran right past me and never saw me, and the buck gets close, nose to the ground at a really good trot. I drew back, thinking " I can' t shoot if he doesn' t stop" . At that very moment I hear, click. whisper " theres a buck chasing two does right to you" click. It was my buddy on the radio, now who' s the spotter? That was all it took to stop the buck in his tracks for a double lung muzzy sandwich He ran less than 30 yards, still with his nose to the ground, to get back to his does, stumble, back up again trot, trot...down!
So I stayed on the hill ' till prime deer time hoping my buddy would get a good opportunity, when the pheasant hunters and dogs came down the creek and ruined everything. They saw him there, spoke to him and STILL walked the whole length of the creek. I felt awful for him, but he was happy for me anyway. Next time maybe he will get the BIG one, he deserves it. Thank you HAZCON7.
Thank you for taking me huntin today, and thank you for being a great huntin buddy!!
I' ll try to post a pic of my buck tomorrow. (a 9 point, not huge, but a real trophy to me)

RE: First bow buck
Here' s Philbert' s buck. A good buck by any standard but a great buck for his first bow buck!
9 points and about 150lbs dressed.
And for the record, Philbert' s taught me most of what I know about hunting deer. Can' t wait til this weekend down in southern IL for shotgun season!
