RE: wounded deer
i know i still have regrets on shooting a deer in the rain, i didn' t find him for 4 days, it has changed my outlook about hunting in the rain.
i passed on a four point tuesday night because i felt i didn' t have a good shot and that was in my head,
as far as practicing, i try to practice every night even if its just 10 arrows, family obligations sometimes hampers these plans.
as far as the survival of you deer, i' ve seen some hard hit deer survive after some bad shots, they are pretty resiliant. but i don' t condone taking an iffy shot.
its only my opinion

The one thing I do for practice is, I carry one arrow with a judo point, and before getting down form my tree stand, I shoot that arrow for my practice shot, it' s not just practice, but it is practice from the tree stand, with all of your hunting gear on!

If it doesnt upset you that you wounded one then you shouldnt be hunting in the first place. It happens to all of us at one time or another. It will help you think harder next time to make a better shot. I have spent three solid days tracking a hit deer before finding it. It sucks because you lose three days of hunting but never give up. Yes I do consider the weather before releasing an arrow. I do not bow hunt when its raining very hard. I only take certain shots before dark. I try and shoot at least five or six arrows before every hunt. I set up a deer target right outside my garage so I can shoot right before I leave to hunt. Get yourself a Block target that you can take with you and shoot at before walking to your stand. Good luck..
