This has been ONE TOUGH SEASON!!!!!!!!
Hey guys,
I don' t know what it is this year, but, this has been the toughest hunting I have ever had. I have enjoyed my time in the woods, but man, things have changed. The corn, alfalfa, and clover fields were planted late this year and they were taken out earlier than normal. Actually, several weeks ago, most of the corn around here was cut. My favorite stand in my honey hole, " The Pond Stand" has changed. It is a tree in a field (right on the edge of the woods), the field is a overgrown golden rod field that has green briar patches in it. There is a pond in front of me, and on the other side of the golden rod field is a powerline which is lined with crab apple trees, and on the other side of those is a cornfield ( which is already cut). Normally the deer would come out of the woods right at the pond, get a drink, head through the field to the crab apples by the powerline, stage up there, then head into the corn at night. Well, a large section of the golden rod field in front of me was cut, so the deer don' t feel as secure. The corn is cut now, so the deer don' t seem to hit it as hard.
I have seen a total of 3 bucks while on stand this year. The first day I passed up a nice 8 point, probablly 16" wide (I am starting to regret ), and I have seen a small 5 point and a small 3 point. Other than that, I have seen doe, and not nearly as many doe as normal which I expected.
I have been putting in some serious time and effort into this season. I have been trying to atleast find the big bucks around here that I have seen earler this year, but, I just have no clue what these deer are doing. I have been setting up in some serious hot-spots from previous years, and I have been trying to adjust to the differences from this year, but, those deer just seem to be one step ahead of good ol Buck Magnet I guess the old saying is true, they don' t get big by being dumb.
Even though things haven' t went entirely how I wanted them to this year, I can' t complain at all. The one deer I got to draw my bow back on, I put the arrow through one lung and the heart. SHe piled up in less than 60 yards!
We are now down to less than a week left. Monday I will hunt in the evening, Tuesday I can' t hunt at all, but, I then have Wed, Thurs, Fri, and Sat off, so I will be in the woods!
I havn' t got as much time to get on here lately, so, I would like to tell all you guys who have got deer, CONGRATS, and to all of you out there who are still pluggin, keep at it and good luck.

RE: This has been ONE TOUGH SEASON!!!!!!!!
Hope your season improves. I know lots of guys in this area seem to get nice bucks during the last week.
I was having lots of trouble seeing deer, two other bowhunters had been walking across the field that I normally see deer, and just about a half hour before the deer normally showed up. They must have finally got tired or something, because I got a doe on 10/31.
My other place is one of those places that just looks amazing. It is 20+ acres, and within 3 min. of my house. Incredible trails, lots of fresh droppings, rubbed and scraped up like crazy. I saw only 3 does there. Very frustrating seeing all that sign, and no deer.
I am done for this year, as I needed to have surgery last Wednesday.
You still have this week. Hope it pays off for you and rewards all of your efforts.

It has been a tough season seeing deer from stand...until recently. You still have plenty of time left though. Still have the last week to go. The bucks are doggin the does big time. I saw four bucks the last two days and at least 15 does. Had many deer outside of visual renge that were moving about. Three of the bucks were in range. Got busted by one. Drew back on and practiced my shot sequence on the other two non shooters. Hunt hard from here on out...You' ll get one if you stay on stand. I saw deer at all times of the day the past two days. Take your lunch and have at it. Good luck! Jim
