Default Calling black bears

What are the basics for calling black bears in September? What time of day is best for bears in September, and would it be better to make bear sounds or a prey distress.

We will be hunting in New England.

, IMO< calling is, a very low odds game on bears

if I WAS to pick a type of call to use, It to me would be animal in distress, and NOT of any bear vocals sounds!
Minus mating season and well, a mother bear calling to cubs, I don;t think bears will come to bear sounds
they honestly tend to avoid each other more than come into to each other!
Just my 2 cents here

find food sources that will be appealing at hunt time, be it corn , apples, grapes, or the likes, ALL HIGH target foods for bears trying to add weight and they attract and draw bears from far and wide from late summer till there GONE

GOOD ridges of white acorns too is a another hot spot, pending time of season!

Just about all the videos I've seen on calling bears are made by those trying to sell their "bear" calls. Any predator might respond to an animal in distress. But you will probably get way more coyotes than bears responding. In the fall, their focus is definitely on food, but probably more of the non-furry kind. They will make an absolute mess of a corn field. They "carb" up for the winter.
