Default Yotes Ate My deer

What a bummer year ,it just goes on and on. Went out this morning.Went in the trail around 5:15 am On the way in I decided not to go to my ground blind, I just decided to sit in some cedars ,Got my chair set up and sat down. It was getting light where you could se shadows. On my left was standing a huge buck. But to dark. It spooked. So I used the primos can It kept running around the area for a while. Then left. At shooting light I seen another buck coming up the draw. It walked past my opening. So I gave a bleat. It stopped and came back. Stood broadside at around 22 yards. I looked it over to make sure it was legal and let a bolt go. Thud. Hmm mayba a little to far back. It bolted ran out about 40 yards stood there ,then walked over to some fallen trees at the edge of a yard. Laid down. Good I will just wait it out. About ten minutes later I herd a yepping and thrashing in the area.OH no here comes 5 yotes. Smelled the blood I quess. Run over to the deer and the deer got up and ran with yotes tearing at it. I cant move fast in the woods. Some terrain is impossible for me to negotiate. I heard the yotes yepping and howling down the cut. By the time I got to the deer about 45 minutes it was half eatin. The yotes were still there. And one did not want to leave. He absolutly had no fear of me. I had to leave my x-bow behind because of the weight . All I had was my knife. I pulled it out and threw rocks at it.Hit it in the head and it run off. What a mess hind quarters gone back strap gone. Gut pulled out. I' m sick, 133 hours in that chair ,only to feed them @#$%$$^. I must of fell a dozen times trying to get to the deer. Cuts and abrasions all over my arms and legs. On the way out I seen a doe and 4 more buck. The area is just polluted with rubs and scrapes. the only high point in the morning. I seen a rub line with 37 rubs and 11 active scrapes. Guess I just get back on the horse and go back. If I was any lower I could drink out of the sewer line under the road. Oh and by law I cant even take the antlers off of the deer unless I tag it. It was a nice basket 6PT with about a 150 lb body before the yotes. I' m really upset at this time ,could eat nails

Sorry to hear about that cardeer, we are starting to get more of a pop of yotes around here, within a few miles of where I hunt a guy had one eaten while he was tracking it, and I have heard them calling and such just before light and just after dark when I am getting in or out of my stands.

Truly sorry to hear about that cardeer

Bigdog, The yotes here in the SE Pa are really starting to become a problem. There are 2 huge landfills near hear and they are drawn to the garbage. Peoples cats are coming up missing and I see them all the time crossing the roads. This is not a wilderness here almost a suburban area. They seem to have no fear.Plus they are bigger then the ones I seen down south or the west.they almost are a German shepard size.Well I' m going back out to that scrape line for the rest of the day. I sure wish Pa allowed us to carry a pistol in bow.Maybe I could of prevented it this morning

I swear Cardeer has the worst of luck. I' m sorry to hear about the coyotes. I' d have probably done more than throw rocks at the one that stayed behind.

Man, cardeer--that is a shame....hopefully next time you will be able to pull the deer out of the woods before the yotes come back...

good luck and stay safe

cardeer - sorry to hear about your ' yote experience. they are becoming somewhat of a nuisance here in SE PA as you noted. You may want to check on PA law again. I believe you can take the antlers of an unretrievable buck - as long as you report it and send the state $5 per point on the rack. Of course, check the law before making that report.

Now go get another!

I know of one of the landfills you speak of and have seen a coyote a few miles from it. We hav

That stinks about your deer. Glad you had a chance to shoot you seemed to be second guessing yourself a bit with the smokepole. And being skunked on days that you have been out with the bow. I have some questons for you as a hunter in your area. I will e-mail you later.

Sorry to hear about that CD. We have been hearing quite a bit more of the coyotes in our area this year. I think their population is really starting to take off.
